We loved the look of this gateway from the garden , it has soo many features and was erected shortly after the castle was destroyed by the earthquake in 1356. Here is the tallest gate tower in the town and on the middle gate look...More

Burgtor and Burg was another small gate located at the entrance of a garden at the far side of the town. In medieval times, this narrow gateway stopped the late comers from returning to town unless they paid the necessary toll fee. Currently entry to...More

The Burgtor is a magnificent site, especially when you walk thru it to the other side and view it from the garden where the original medieval castle stood until destroyed by an earthquake centuries ago. The view of the first gate surrounded by its two...More

This gate and tower that leads to the old castle grounds which are now the gardens are picturesque and house some artists shops. Enjoy a slow stroll through them, similar to the other gates around Rothenburg but perhaps a bit better for photos.

This tower and the park beyond it are my favorite part of Rothenberg. Looking back towards the tower and town, it looks like a fairytale place., something otherworldly. Be sure to visit during the day for the views over the walls, and at night, to...More

This double gate is one a several in town but is impressive in its own right. It leads to where the castle once sat and you can only imagine what it must have been like. Only one building from the castle remains which is the...More

On an evening tour of the old town we stopped off briefly to marvel at this old gateway (Castle Gate) into the walled city. I liked the man hole door built into the main gate. This was designed to allow late comers to gain access...More
