A beautiful view, but also a challenge
Apr 2021
There is a small parking lot directly at the Lechfall. You can park there for free. On the opposite side of the street, at the kiosk, it goes up to the Kalvarienberg.
Once at the top, there is a beautiful view over the surroundings, up to Neuschwanstein Castle (and of course even further).
However, some stamina and good shoes are recommended. The way up is steep and long. Definitely not a leisurely Sunday afternoon stroll, more of a hike

Worth the Hike
Sep 2019
This was something I read about and immediately knew I had to do this.
I love being outside, in the woods and the weather turned out to be perfect.
We are 2 women in our 60's who consider ourselves physically active and in good health. On occasion during this hike, I did have to pause and get my breath. You definitely have to watch your footing.
The chapels for the 14 stations of the cross did make the hike so much more interesting and a almost mystical experience.
The view from the top is spectacular.
I am so happy I was able to do this hike.

Beautiful Hike
Sep 2019
We accidentally ended up on this hiking trail and are so glad that we did! Steep climb, but also multiple longer ways to make it up. Well worth it for the view of the castles, lakes, town of Fussen and altar! Such an incredible site!

An interesting walk
Sep 2019
We walked from Fussen over the bridge and followed the signs for the Kalvarienburg hike. We walked past all the chapels up hill until you get to the summit with its three crosses and chapels. It’s a nice walk through the woods and well worth the effort.
There aren’t any great views from the top as the trees block those but we then joined the three castles path and walked to Hohenschwangau and back which was a 7 hour day hike with stops.

nice walk
Jul 2019
This is a very nice path to follow if you want to join the Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein castles, walking through nature, through forest. It is not too difficult, of course don't do it with sandals! It should take no more than 2 hours, but you will have a beautiful overview on Füssen and lakes, it is very quiet.

Great weather

It was a great 1/2 day tour with our little babies. It’s not so hard to get there, and there are so many ways up to the hill. The view is absolutely amazing, we had a great sunny day, so it was even better . After that we made a round tour around the Schwansee! Perfect Sunday program

Great hike
Sep 2018 • Solo
This was a great climb thru all the “stations of the cross” until you get to the peak at “Calvary”. This symbolizes Jesus carrying the cross to his death. Each station has a little hut like church building. When I happened to go up, i came upon a church service they were having at the 3rd station. I was told they only do those twice a year and the parishioners have to hike up. They even had a German brass band playing the church music. It was very beautiful. The views from the top are spectacular. It’s a little tough of a hike in the beginning but then it’s not too bad. Most people, unless you have mobility or heart issues, could probably do this.

Definitely a Highlight of Our Tour of the Area
Aug 2018 • Family
This is a wonderful walk up the mountain (about 20 minutes from the falls parking lot.) We were in a bit of a hurry to get back to Munich after a long day, so we didn't get to fully appreciate all of the stations of the cross on the way up. On a clear day the views from the top are worth the sweat...guaranteed. We walked down the mountain toward the town and then walked back over to our car. There are many more trails that could be walked if you have the time. Overall, it's a great, free attraction...and some good exercise to boot.
