Old Stone Bridge Used As A Model By Others In Various European Cities
Jul 2021
Although the United States has many wonderful things to see and cities to visit, it is hard to find anywhere in the US where the Romans set up military camps, built bridges, or simply conquered. Actually, there isn't any! What I love about Europe is that you can find these places in almost every country. This famous stone bridge was built in the 12th century and was the model for the beautiful bridge in Heidelberg and also the lovely Charles Bridge in Prague. It is also historic in that it was built by the Romans and it was later used by the Christians during the Crusades. Impressive history!

An impressive medieval bridge that has been rebuilt and reconstructed.

This is one of the oldest bridges on the Danube and is quite wonderful to see, particularly in the evening. However, history enthusiasts should be aware that nearly all of the bridge, or at least the visible parts have been recently reconstructed. The bridge has a side causeway down to one of the islands in the Danube where one can sit and watch the river.

a nice bridge in the heart of the city that brings back the spirit of the previous times, but not different from this type of bridges present in other towns of Europe

Heart of the city

Everything happens here not far from here. The main attraction of the city for some reason. Better during the summer months.

I went on a Sunday and all of the stores were open, unusual for Germany. There is plenty of parking. If can sit on both sides of the river if the weather is nice and get some sun. It is bicycle friendly. Plenty of restaurants to eat on both sides. In the old city visit the Eingang Zum Dom Cathedral.

A very functional bridge .....

Oh look, a bridge. Let's drive four hours to see the marvels of Regensburg, one of the richest cities of the Holy Roman Empire. Oh wait, you wanted information? You were expecting some decoration? Sorry mate, this is just a very plain bridge across the Danube. Yes it's old but so's my Gran and she's more photogenic. The area around here has some more beautiful medieval buildings but unless you both speak German and have an eye for snooping that would make Sherlock Holmes blush you won't be able to find any information about them. Basically, Regensburg's tourist agency is xenophobic and makes no concessions to attract foreign visitors. Learn German or **ss off home.

as advertised... an old stone bridge
May 2019
This is a must see in Regensburg simply due to the historic nature of the bridge and the view. The actual experience is nothing to write home about. We had someone try to scam us as we walked across (of course that can happen anywhere) and there wasn't much to see once we were across the bridge. If you are interested in seeing the bridge, I suggest making the most of it with a stop at the little museum in front of it then get lunch at the sausage kitchen where you can enjoy dining in the same spot as the builders of the bridge with a lovely view of it.

Pretty bridge and view, things to do nearby

Well kept old bridge with pretty views of the Danube. The Wurst haus is very close for a sausage lunch, and the Swarovski crystal boats leave from right there for short tours up and down the Danube.

This is a beautiful old bridge we walked across on our entry to Regensburg. It is in excellent condition when you realise how old it is.

Interesting bridge!

It's an interesting bridge with a great view, that leads you right into the city centre; often there are musicians playing some lovely tunes and it's great for taking some nice photos
