This very interesting building was on our tour from the Viking river cruise. The prince bishops lived quite well. Very well preserved and the paintings and ceilings are quite inspiring to view.

Striking to see how well the Prince Bishop lived. Now a museum the building is most interesting in its own right. The various influence of baroque and others in the style, decoration and color is very interesting.

If you are on your own and exploring the buildings in town worth a stop you will see a lot of Romanesque sculpture and a beautiful fresco on the ceiling. Stop in the library a beautiful room

Once upon a time the bishop princes (they were both) resided in this residenz and made their way to St. Stephen's cathedral via a covered passage which you'll walk under to reach the doors to this place. The doors are gorgeous and once inside you may admire beautiful baroque moldings, frescoes, and an impressive staircase. There are other treasures --... More

The nicest thing here is the frescos on the entry staircase which is free to see. the stuff on the inside is not worth the money or the time to see.

Yes he really did sleep here. During his campaigns throughout this part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Napoleon did establish his wartime headquarters in this Residenz. There are some nice paintings, but the Napoleon link is really the claim to fame. The residence, of course, is large, befitting of the Bishop's residence.

We enjoyed our walk by and through the palace. What was very interesting was to find out that when Napoleon came through he separated church and state and the prince bishops lost their palaces like this in many cities.

Rococco style. Not much to see on the inside other than the library. It's worth a short visit of about 15 minutes. It costs a couple euros to go into the library.

A visit to the Residenz was part of our river cruise arranged walking tour. The building itself is massive and was undergoing some exterior renovation. Be sure to look up when walking up the stairs to the exhibits or you will miss some beautiful ceilings. The main exhibit although small compared to many we have seen during this trip was... More
