Oldest Chain Suspension Bridge in Germany
Dec 2019
This piece of Nuremberg history is relatively modern (i.e. 19th century) so it is a little out-of-place with the reconstructed medieval architecture nearby. However, it's a little slice of Germany's industrial heritage, and is a fun walk.

19th-century chain bridge in Nuremburg
Dec 2019
Kettensteg is the interesting chain bridge which is set under the old city fortification structures and Schlayerturm (Schlayer Tower) in the western end of the city centre of Nuremburg. It is beautiful, interesting to see and fun to cross when visiting this area of the city.

Built in 1824 and replacing a wooden walkway crossing, this was the first free-floating chain suspended bridge in Germany. It was considered a feat of pioneering achievement at that time. The bridge is 80 metres long and includes 423 wooden planks.

Well worth spending a few minutes to enjoy seeing and walking across Kettensteg when sightseeing around the historic city centre. Views of the river in the direction of Maxbrücke to the east are very good from here as well.

Amazing chain bridge
Oct 2019
The bridge itself is quaint and not very elevated above the river. The view looking both ways is to die for though. Amongst the most picturesque photos that we took the whole trip. We were lucky it was mostly sunny. The sound of water slowly passing under you and watching the waterfowl just made for such a relaxing experience in a busy city. It is very easy to walk to and the surrounding area is spectacular. It is in an area to just get lost in and wander the streets. A must do if you are in Nuremberg. Take care.

Over The River
Oct 2019
The Kettensteg is close to the river and is a nice area to visit which is part of the old town of Nuremberg. Worth checking out.

Quiet corner of old town
Jun 2019 • Friends
This area is another fairly quiet corner of the old town in a historic quarter worth seeking out to visit. The buildings and water make for a lovely section of the town to photograph and enjoy.

Good authentic German Food
Aug 2019 • Solo
Just outside the old town hustle and bustle we stumbled across Kettensteg restaurant. It is located by the suspension bridge and river and all in all a pleasant setting. It was very busy and the staff looked overworked and for German standards this compromised service, however that did not bother me as the pork shoulder and dumplings and the beer was reasonably priced and tasted good. I can see how the lack of staff and service would put people off but persevere with it as food and drink was first class and located in a good setting

The location is great, the service is shocking even hostile. Don’t go, unbelievable. It should be great, but the culture is in need of repair.

Cute, nothing special but cute.
Mar 2019 • Couples
Don't make a special trip, but work it into other things (ex: Weißgerbergasse and the beer garden). It's the oldest chain bridge on the continent, so that's cool if you're into bridges. The area by the river is cute with lots of different bridges, nice to walk if the weather cooperates.
