The residence is a huge complex where you can stroll around for hours, when you are interested in how the royals where living. If you don't have that interest, it is to much and more or less the same.

This is a must see in Munich - an easy walk from the central square. Over 100 rooms to walk through, each unique is their opulence. If you’re a fan of tapestries, you’ll love this attraction. We spent about 2 hours wandering the route. I found it easier to read the displays rather than listen to the audio. The porcelain and table ware exhibit were outstanding. Well worth it.

Visited the Residenz and treasury museum on a combined ticket. There is a free attended cloakroom to leave your larger bags and coats. The treasury museum is well worth a visit to see the Crown Jewels and other artefacts. The Residenz is spectacular where you visit as many as 130 rooms. It takes a while to walk round the full palace but worth the effort. Highly recommended for families.

The Munich Residenz was a sensational experience. Although much of it was destroyed in WWII, it was restored to its magical current state. It was a 2 hour journey through the best of royal times and wealth. Truly amazing!

This is one of the attractions that leaves you speechless with the amount of area it encompasses. The audio guide does a good job explaining the history involved. The house itself is like a giant piece of artwork. It is right in the center of old town so it is easy to reach from most areas. Some of the rooms are so opulent you will be left amazed. The amount of detail involved from the trim, ceilings and doors never stops. Amazing craftsmanship!

This is a fantastic attraction in Munich, which is why it gets 5 stars, but the management is absurd. They decided to give two options, the "long" tour and the "short" tour. Why on Earth does the short tour exclude the best rooms?? It's utterly ridiculous. The excluded Emperor's Hall is more gorgeous than anything else in the Residenz.
Do not, under any circumstances, do the short tour. Ever. If for some reason you're in a hurry, do the long tour and just speed through the boring rooms.
The gap is so big that I dare say that if you only went to the rooms excluded by the short tour, and no other rooms, you'd still have a better time than if you simply did the short tour. Not only would you have seen the best rooms, but you'd also have used your time much more efficiently, skipping many of the boring rooms.
Don't get me wrong, it's absolutely worth it to do the long tour. But if for some reason you ever consider doing the asinine short tour instead, just do the long tour and then run past the boring rooms.

This is a must see. From the entrance to the great vaulted hall. Make sure you give your visit enough time. I would say a couple of hours to see all at your leisure.

This has to be one of the most opulent buildings I've ever seen. Just a crazy experience - layers of history as monarchs added to the excess of their predecessors. So many fascinating things to see - lots of the rooms were a real assault on the senses. Loved the stonework in some of them. The hall showing the family tree going back to 1300s was a v impressive set of portraits. AND some amazing fireplaces dotted throughout. Loved it and would go back again.

Visited this palace - one of 4 palaces visited in Bavaria - would rate it the last out of the 4 palaces visited in this order .
1) Linderhof palace
2) Neuschwanstein palace
3) Nymphenburg palace
4) Residentz palace
Rated 4 out of the 4 palaces as,
1) relatively empty palace with few decorations and paintings relative to other palaces though more than Neuschwanstein and Nymphenburg palace which are merely empty .
2) hardly any palace gardens and ground and little historical significance so not really worth to visit after seeing other palaces
3) location wise - most accessible of the 4 palaces
4) historical / romantic scale - the lowest as it is pretty cold ordinary palace with less significance in terms of history and setting .
Still worth a visit if you have days to burn .

Absolutely one of our favorite places that we visited during our trip to Europe. As many mentioned there are parts that have been repaired after WWII which could be said of most of the large structures on Germany. We did the self guided tour and just took our time enjoying every aspect of the building. The ceilings were just as amazing as the ornate walls and the furniture was spectacular. We walked from room to room just staring at the elegance of the Residenz. The floors had such an incredible inlay from room to room. Price was reasonable at 8 euro.
COVID has has such an impact on this place. First you have to have a PCR test done prior to even buying a ticket and this was before Omicron. We had to show our Green Pass along with our passport and the result of the PCR (if you are getting a Swiss Pass you can back door a Green Pass) . An antigen test was not sufficient. We sadly saw people turned away without the PCR test. Getting one is widely available and the cost was reasonable. I just googled free COVID test and just found the cheapest easiest location. Free I suspect only applies to German citizens. We during our 2 hour visit saw maybe 10 people. I’m sure it is less crowded during the winter than summer but I also have no doubt the requirements have created a barrier to visit. Trust me when I say going that extra step for this museum. Enjoy.

De acuerdo, las filas no son muy largas. Eso sí, hay que saber la hora de cierre, porque una hora antes no venden boletas. Al menos en invierno....

I don't know whether entrance on Sunday is free, but perhaps on special days. The best way to find out is to check the Residenz web site and if necessary, use a translator to get a display in Cyrillic.
The courtyard is always free. Certain students and other visitors may be free, but it appears they are mostly German citizens.

La chambre dispose d'une machine à café. Si vous vous référez à un café comme un commerce pour aller boire un verre, le bloc a deux endroits où vous pouvez aller.
Does it have air condition for the summer?

Hello , Can anyone provide me with more specific details about where the entrance is to Munich Residenz ? I have seen several reviews saying it is hard to find but in reading through all of them, I am still unclear as to where the entrance is. We will be parking at the National Theatre so that is the direction we will be walking from. Thanks in advance for any help an advise!

It is in Max-Joseph Platz. As you face the Residenz, the Opera House will be on your right. There are arched entrances in the middle of the building leading to a small courtyard. Enter there. There are signs for it.
The Residenz is huge...something like 130 rooms. If you plan to also see the Treasury, and you should, do the Residenz first, go have lunch nearby and come back after lunch for the Treasury.

Boa viagem e aproveite bastante!
