Situated high above the Munich skyline, the Blue Spa is quite literally the hotel’s crowning glory. Star architect Andree Putman has created a unique four-storey wellness retreat for body and soul measuring 1,300 m2. Choose from our extensive range of relaxing and revitalising massages. Go for a swim in the 6.50 x 14.50 m pool. When the weather’s nice, you can even turn it into an open-air pool thanks to the sliding glass roof. And if there’s a chill in the air, the open fireplace is sure to keep you warm and cosy. Our range of saunas extends from the extra gentle organic sauna in the ladies’ area and the mixed Finnish sauna with infusions through to the classic aroma steam bath. An immersion bath and a separate quiet area help guests feel refreshed and relaxed. And with a tanning bed and Munich’s finest sun terrace, which overlooks the city, there is nothing left to be desired.

Missing hygiene factors - left feeling unwell after our evening wellness retreat

An old sewage stench permeated the ladies change room, used bathrobes and towels scattered the ground and an inadequate drinking water supply was what we experienced at our evening retreat to iconic Hotel Bayerischer Hof’s unique wellness spa. The fact that we endured the entire 3 hour appointment was only a compliment to the old prestige of the institution. We rather found our stay quite humorous, to the fact that despite there being cocktail menus sprawled around the poolside, there was not a service attendant in site to take an order. Rattling with the idea to walk to reception (two floors down) to order, we decided not to donate the potential 70-90€ to a non-existent service at the establishment. Upon departure the friendly looking lady asked how we found our stay. To which we responded with honesty our shared experience, emphasizing the fact that the entire pool, sauna and change rooms seemed to be neglected for days and the stench should be attended to with immediacy. To our horror, she shrugged her shoulders and explained that they were “fully booked tonight” (really hope that is not a standard and authorised customer complaint handling script). Hint: she stood at the bar and had open access to a running tap of filtered water when we expressed how thirsty we were. Ladies and gentlemen, here is the five star luxury service. A prime moment for the friendly looking lady to turn that experience and situation around and redeem that trust we had in the name. To top off the night, we decided to pass the feedback to the staff at hotel reception. Because we genuinely wanted to give the old prestige the chance to redeem itself. We waited ... 16 minutes and had to insist for four glasses of tap water to quench our dyhydrated bodies from the un-wellness experience. The attitude and tone of providing that service was beyond repair at that point and we only hope this review will shake management into gear to attend to the basic hygiene factors of this facility. We will not be visiting again, nor will we recommend our guests or business partners to the venue.

Service is so-so

Slow and snobby service. My boyfriend and I stayed at the hotel, so we visited the Blue Spa a few times and always left a little disappointed. Beautiful views of the city though.

Went here for a nice sunny afternoon cocktail and was ignored and brushed off due to our young age and lack of flashy designer labels. After waiting for 20 minutes asked to sit under an umbrella and was told they aren’t available as multiple sat free. Then sat at another table and was clearly perturbed when the same staff member all of a sudden offered the umbrella table to us. Too little to late I don’t reward rude manners with my business.

At least the people at China Moon at the Mandarin were more accommodating and pointed us in the direction of another bar as their’s was sadly under construction.

Don’t waste your time or money at the blue spa. Try the China moon instead if you want manners and timely service.

Interesting SPA

I had booked a SPA package for me and a friend before arriving to this famous SPA and Hotel.

The SPA receptionist was excellent and extremely helpful. He explained to us all inclusions of the package and if we had any preferences. He also explained the layout of the SPA which is a bit complicated as it is spread out over more than 3 floors due to the construction of the building. However, this is no issue at all and in fact makes it a bit mystical as you cannot look into the entire SPA at once.
Next to the reception area is the SPA restaurant with its outdoor deck as well as the gym. Both very nice and highly recommended. We loved the views, the food we enjoyed after our treatments as well as the coffee, juices and Champagne! Also the service in the restaurant was very professional and friendly! Well done.
The treatment itself was medium. Having had many massages and living in Bangkok, working in the hotel industry for over 20 years myself, I expected a more accurate service. Maybe because I had mentioned to the therapist that I manage LHW hotels including SPAs myself, she was more on the "friendly" side than following the standard procedures. Not sure. I am sure she is very good but on that day I was not 100 % satisfied.
EXAMPLE: I asked at the beginning to focus only on shoulder and back. No head or full body was needed. When she had finished to treat my back, she put a towel over my head and started the head massage. I asked her to stop it as I did not want any oil in my hair. She stopped and apologized immediately which was fine and appreciated.
Another point which was irritating was, that the SPA disposable underwear was given to me AFTER I came out of the changing room, inside the treatment room. Usually the therapist would leave the room while changing but when she passed me the item, she did not make an afford to leave the room and therefore I did not change into the disposable underwear. it was fine as I only had an upper body massage, but still a bit strange.

At the end when the treatment was done, my friend was offered by her therapist a Mango drink as refreshment whereby I was offered tea or water. Different standards here.
Also, on the registration form at the beginning they ask if you had any surgeries within the last 3 years. ( I know usually only one year is relevant, however they asked for within 3 years). And yes I did. I had a major surgery on my stomach 2 years ago. Since I know it is already past the one year you should be careful with, I did not bother that the therapist did not double check and ask if I am ok. But overall why asking on paper if you do not read it or bother?

The treatment room was too bright and did not allow me to relax completely. Also there was no music.

My friend had an amazing treatment and when she came out of the room, she was so relaxed and happy... This shows that actually the service is excellent and I only picked a not amazing day with my therapist which can happen! But I must say she was charming and nice!

At the end of our journey we went to the indoor pool which is nice in since but needs a make over.

Overall we truly enjoyed our morning at the SPA with extremely friendly employees and mostly very professional! We will certainly be back! Thank you!

Forget about the Spa and head to the Bar & Lounge!

The Blue Spa Bar & Lounge has the BEST view of Munich, period. On a clear day not only you can see all the city landmarks but even the snowy peaks of the Alps. Veeery romantic... ;)
I did not use the Spa, I hear it's expensive and staff are unfriendly. So be it. Skip it.
The Bar & Lounge is another thing, close but separated. Drinks and cocktails are fine, prices are reasonable and the VIEW, the view is EVERYTHING. Go at least once, before it gets too dark.

Treat yourself!

We booked services here before arriving in Munich and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. I had a Swedish massage and my daughter, the Thai. Both were outstanding. We also enjoyed foot massages. Our ladies were superb practitioners and were intereactive just enough to meet our needs. We opted to get a day pass and spent the day relaxing by the pool in between spells in the ladies' sauna. The showers were fully supplied; towels in abundance; fresh water everywhere. My only recommendation would be plastic bags in which one could put wet bathing suits!

Terrible and slow slow service
I spend two weeks in München and visited a different restaurant every lunch and every diner. The Blue Spa at the Bayerischer Hof is without a doubt the worst restaurant I have visited. Yes, the view is great and you will find several pretty girls wandering about. But that's all there is. A terrible menu, a long long wait (it took over 30 minutes to bring me a glass of wine and over 45 minutes to bring a simple salat). I will definitely will not come back here.
