Wonderful Museum
Jan 2020 • Solo
An art space with changing exhibitions, in a building with a very rich (dark) history. By far, the best art space in Munich for contemporary art. Each exhibition has a 'guide' book as you enter, or there's the option of an audio guide. The space is incredibly well used and the artwork well displayed (unlike some other art spaces in Munich, where due to lighting or glare, it could be difficult to view some pieces). Price doesn't change on a Sunday like so many museums in Munich, but entry is free on the first Thursday of each month at a certain time of the day. Opens later than other museums. Highly recommended.

Wonderful museum

The Haus der Kunst is fascinating! The history of the building was very compelling and the temporary exhibits were beautifully put together. The architecture of the building alone is worthy of a visit.

Low Level exhibits with far lower quality artists
Sep 2019
I'm sorry that after over 35 years, I know this museum the quality sinks more and more.
After visiting the Mirian Cahn presentation, I was almost in rage.
You don't need any art degree to deliver such infantile collor splash, actually you just need to kick a bucket over a canvas, the result would be the same, but don't forget to have cheap collor inside the bucket.

Weird

Great option for a rainy day. I went here when rain became too much walking in English Gardens. Don't miss special exhibits in the basement - spooky! Also, excellent gift store.

audio guide free with ticket for german or english

We were there for a special exhibit of trash art from Nigeria. The artist has been working with African alcohol tops, labels and such to make artistic statements about life, art, and such. Cool exhibits! Never knew that one could do so much with trash. The exhibit was well explained on the walls and in the audio. Worth going to.

Nazi Architecture
Jun 2019 • Family
In many ways it is good that so much of the Nazis influence has been destroyed by WWII or redevelopment. However, there are a few remaining buildings that show that distinctive neoclassicism from Albert Speer and the House of Art in Munich is one of them. Built in the 1930's, it survived the war and serves as another art museum for Munich. We did not have time to visit the interior but we did walk the grounds to see it. While its front is covered by an interesting modern art collage, the parts not covered clearly show that style that dominated Germany during the time of the Nazis.

Fantastic exhibit here! What a find!
May 2019 • Couples
The extraordinary African artist El Anatsui has a fantastic exhibit here - gigantic fabric-like installations made from bottle caps - this is unlike anything we’ve ever seen. El Anatsui’s wood carvings are pretty amazing as well. Such a fascinating exhibit!

I have been there several times and there is always something new and exciting. Most of the time they have some new traveling exhibit that is well worth taking a look at.

Modern and Contemporary Art Museum in Historic Building
May 2019 • Couples
Adjacent to the English Garden is this historic building which holds special displays of modern and contemporary art by German and international artists. Also, there is a cafe on the premises.

Great temple of contemporary art
Apr 2019 • Couples
A huge neoclassical building exhibiting contemporary art in huge galleries over looking the English Garden. What you get to see is very much a matter of luck.
