This building is the old mint of the Bavarian rulers. From the outside, there's not much to see. The inner courtyard of renaissance arcades were preserved when the building was converted, but the gates were locked and I could just about see the courtyard from beyond the gates.

Don't go out of the way, unless you're already visiting Alter Hof or the Old Court.

Love coins!

Love the old coins and information on how things were minted. Extensive collection of old coins. Wonderful place to visit especially on a rainy day.

Not spectacular at all from the outside but inside with a Renaissance Courtyard from 1563
Sep 2016 • Friends
Yes, you wouldn't expect anything spectacular from the outside but when you pass the gate and enter the courtyard you will discover one of the first renaissance courtyards north of the alps.
Built 1563-67 as part of the old residence (Alter Hof) the ground floor was for the horses of the ducal court, whereas the second floor was home of the "Kunstkammer", the collection of artworks of the dukes of Bavaria and thus one of the first museums north of the alps.
No entrance fee, but open only during office hours.

Renaissance delight
Jul 2015 • Couples
This building was the Old Mint, from 1573. Just by chance, we have seen a courtyard, we dropped in, and it was a rennaisance building. We didn't know what is is and than we found a leaflet, where everything was written.
