Hohenschwangau is the older and smaller of the two castles. But it feels like a home where Neuschwanstein feels like a museum. Our tour guide was wonderful. He could have been mistaken for the actor Christophe Waltz. They looked alike and talked alike, who knows,...More

this is a great little castle, still family owned. Gets busy in the afternoon but if your staying local you can get up early and visit. even when it is busy they limit the number in the tour.

While this castle is not as famous as its brother up the hill (Neuschwanstein), it is worth a visit. You do need to get a tour, so it is recommended to reserve it online in advance to avoid the long lines. The tour is ok,...More

The castle was purchased by Ludwig II father and restored. Little more than the old family home. N Nice views though.

There are 2 castles and you will be tempted to purchase the combination ticket. The smaller Ludwig castle (yellow one) provides a very intimate tour of the interior, and some interesting stories of the occupants and their visitors. The larger castle is more a huge...More

Nice castle, interesting enough to be vizited during trip to Neuswanstein, but not worth it to be vizited as a single sightseeing. I recommend to have a walk around nearby located Alpsee!

Hohenschwangau Castle is located on a hill across from Neischwanstein. It is not a famous a Neuschwanstein, but it is a delight in its own right. The Royal Schloss Hohenschwangau is King Ludwig II's father's castle. This was the palace of King Max, the father...More

We actually found this a more interesting and satisying tour than Neuschwanstein - more historical detail and more human. Don't pass it up if you're visiting the other one

Hohenschwangau Castle was a property used as a summer and hunting retreat. It was never intended to house large numbers of guests and has a floor plan to match this personal and homely requirement. Our tour guide was fantastic. He was called Sebastian (though would...More

Hi, Annette. What would you like to know about this attraction? Hi All, Is it better to visit Hohenschwangau first or Neuschwanstein? And, does either of them tend to be less busy early morning or late afternoon. Any opinion on the Museum of Bavarian Kings? Can they be done in 1 day or better to allow for 2 days (we are staying 2 days in Fuessen). We have a rental car but could take public transport if that is the better option. Thank you!

If you purchase a discounted 2 castle ticket you will ALWAYS have Hohenschwangau first and Neuschwanstein second. You want to reserve your ticket online (when I showed up at 11:00 to pick up my tickets, there were 2-3... More

Is this stroller friendly, or will I need to bring my infant carriers? Is this near Neushwanstien? Is it possible to tour both in 1 day?

The interiors of the castles are NOT stroller friendly. It is possible to take a stroller on some of the paths to the castles; other paths have stairs. You can definitely do both castles the same day; the ticket office in... More
