sometimes visiting a church has a meaning. In this case, for me a lot. People are very religious here, so visiting service is a must. Church is cold as all churches in winter - this one was frosty.

We recently had the pleasure of staying in Oberammergau across the street from the church (Hotel Dedlerhaus). Morning church bells were glorious. We happened to be there during the introduction of the Easter Passion Play which occurs every 10 years. The locals gather at the...More

The interior of the church is so unlike the outside. Outside is plain (in a nice way), but the inside is well over the top and garish in my view. The town though is a lovely village nestled in the mountains.

We didn't realise it was a public holiday so when we couldn't find accommodation in Ettal we went to Oberammergau for a look see. We weren't disappointed. A beautiful town with a religious theme throughout it due to a show that happens once every 10...More

The bell is remembering you the time with one stroke for the quarter, two strokes for the half and the hour are the number of strokes. Inside is very well maintained and outside is surrounded by tombs and graves.

We saw this church and the Wieskirche on the same day. Personally, I liked this one more. Not only is the church beautiful, but the attached graveyard has some very ornate plots,

We visited Oberammergau in Sep 2018 and had a chance to walk around the town. The paintings on the buildings were unique and houses of worship were ornate. This was a lovely find as i strolled along. Feel free to leave a donation in the...More

Oberammergau Church is set back from the main streets but is definitely worth a detour. In contrast to the outside, the interior - with its ceiling frescoes, masonry, sculptures and gold embellishments - is opulent and ornate; overwhelmingly so! At the back of the church...More

I stopped by the church while walking through town. It is small but beautiful and the adjacent cemetery was interesting as you are able to see the old and historical tombstones. Lots of history in the area.

Ornate interior with lots of original features. The pine pews, stairs and gallery are certainly very ancient. The view from the gallery (I hope entry is permitted) is grand. Feels like a sleepy old church in a sleepy old town. Some very interesting history associated...More
