Telling the history
Oct 2021 • Solo
The history is horrific but they tell the story. It was well organized with the buses to and from. As sad as it is, it’s worth the visit.

Worth a visit but at a cost.... check out the advice.
Oct 2021
First things first....it costs 28 euros to take the shuttle bus up and down to the base camp from Obersalzberg.....but it is a spectacular ride especially if you are in the front seat. Next, it cost 67 euros to do the Eagles's Nest Historical Tour that lasts about 4 hours and starts in Berchtesgaden. If you are not really interested in the Hitler element of the visit ( this was his Tea House to entertain special guests ) the former is the best choice but be warned you will only experience the bus ride, the tunnel to the elevator, the original brass- coated elevator (once powered by a U-boat engine ) ride to the summit to find a restaurant, two viewpoints and a couple of paths back down to base camp if you are fit and like walking !!!! Personally, being in our dotage, we thoroughly enjoyed it as we could relate to its importance but if you are a family visiting it is probably not worth it. We were based in Munich without a car and thoroughly enjoyed the train ride / bus ride using the Bayern Pass ticket to Berchtesgaden. Top tip a taxi from here costs 14 euros one way... buses to Obersalzberg are not that frequent. Enjoy.

Cheaper ways to see the mountain tops
Sep 2021
The bus and elevator ride to the top of the mountain where the Eagle's nest is are quite pricey for what is provided. When you are at the top, there is a restauant and small kiosk, but other than that not much to see and do.

A couple of red and black-grade hiking trails start from the Eagle's nest and we explored down them in the time we had back before out allocated bus and the views were spectacular. Hard to recommend the cost unless you are planning to make full use of the hiking trails at the top.

NOT WORTH IT
Sep 2021 • Solo
Totally not worth it. It costs 28€ and the views are not stunning, it's crowded and there are so many other free optiions around.
Don't go with a tour. Just pay 10,6€ for a complete day bus ticket to the bus driver. Download the app ÖBB for schedules. Go to berchtesgaden with bus 840 from salzburg. Then choose another bus to where you'd like to go. I went to königsee. Beautiful lake and senderism is possible and it's free.

Great View but Nothing Special
Jul 2021
Great view of mountains from the top but expensive bus trip up to the base station just for a view. Nothing to say Nazis were ever there or historical (prevents right wing focus I suppose). Underwhelming really.

Highly overrated excursion
Jul 2021 • Couples
Highly overrated excursion. Beside beautiful views (better seen in the area or in Austria) there is not much to see. The entrance feeder the Eagle Nest is very high. When you want to see and learn more You’ve to pay an extra ticket for the documentation center. That plus the parking fee makes this a very expensive excursion of… (not much) Extra note; the employee of the ticket office was very rude to the clients. Overal opinion; don’t visit the Kehlstein house and spare yourself a big disappointment.

A great perch
Jul 2021
Easy drive from Salzburg. Very windy and nervewracking bus ride to the top. Great history and views with lots of trails up top. How could such a beautiful place be associated with such evil? Important lessons here.

Expensive but worth it --if you have good weather.
Jul 2021
The views are amazing when it is clear. We went in the morning and got some great photos as the clouds came and went. You can either climb 800 meters over 5 km or pay 28 euros for the bus and then take the lift that goes through the mountain up to the top. There is not really much here except for amazing views, the restaurant, and the tunnel to the elevator that was built for Hitler. There is an information room next to the restaurant. We stayed 2.5 hours which was plenty of time, including lunch. The food at the restaurant was excellent and reasonable. We were tempted to hike further but the clouds came in and we were sore from an earlier hike.

A must do for the views alone!
May 2020 • Friends
Breathtaking views steeped in history! It was strange to say we took the same elevator that Hitler took, or be in the planning rooms where the Nazi party gathered. It was hard to believe such deviating plans may have come from a location that looked so heavenly.

A sight to see!
Aug 2020
Recently got back from a two week trip of Bavaria and part of Austria and Czech Republic. Just got back to Germany where I am stationed and thought that the area around Eagle's nest was an absolute must visit place. It was an interesting place to visit although we wish we could have visited more places in the region definitely recommend this one. We stopped at a brewery in town for lunch but can't remember the name, will try to find it as well. Absolutely the best food on our trip!
