The day we took the funicular was overcast and rainy. We bought round trip tickets all the way to the top, which includes access to the castle halfway up. You take a modern train car to the 2nd stop, then change over to the old-fashioned one to go all the way to the top. Even with the clouds and rain,... More

The trip is rather pricey. We bought two €9 tickets and found out at the top they were actually one way. There used to be a hotel at the top but it is now closed and fenced in giving the whole area a bit of a ghetto look. The old train itself is very nicely kept in original state.

I have never been in any funicular earlier. We took ticket for the entire journey. The experience till King's throne was amazing. Awesome views. The wooden funicular is not to be missed. Then went to castle. But we couldn't take the funicular down as there was a long queue so we walked down.

You can take this train from Kornmarkt all the way to the top of Konigstuhl or just to the castle (price is included in castle admission to take the train that far). We hiked to the castle, took the train from the castle to the "midpoint" station, then walked the "Stairway to Heaven" (over 1,200 steps) to the top of... More

Your Schloss ticket includes this funicular to get to and from the castle. €7 all up. You wouldn't be taking it for the ride itself, only to get to the castle.

No line, walked right on. Pleasant ride. Operators were helpful. Switched to historical train easily. No confusion or wait. Great view at the very top. Had a nice Cola and a pretzel at the top and enjoyed the view.

We travelled with our son who has a disability. He loved the funicular ride and was thrilled with the views when we reached the top. Would highly recommend.

We had not known there was a funicular railway in Heidelberg, we'd almost parked on tp of it but had not noticed , However after leaving the castle by the top gate we saw the building and went to investigate. we were very pleased we had as our castle entry ticket also gave us rides on the railway which we... We went to the very top where the funicular ends. It is mainly to see the view. A few pictures and then we caught the funicular down to stop at the castle. Don't think you can do this trip in 20 minutes. The line to get into the funicular can be long and the ride takes some time as it... More
