I wouldn’t recommend this boat trip, and that was before we ran aground and everyone got kicked off at the next stop – Neckarsteinach. We did the 12:00 departure from Heidelberg “Castle Cruise on the Neckar” on a Saturday in September. Not sure if the boat is packed every Saturday when the weather is nice, or we just happened to... I wanted to take a short river excursion, so we bought tickets and rode one way. The most interesting features were going through the locks. There are about four castles between Heidelberg and Necharsteinach, so that was fun as well. Just pleasant to watch people on the shores camping and enjoying their summer.

We took a short cruise up to Neckargemund and back. It was very interesting traveling through the locks and watching the captain at work. The cruise itself was comfortable, even though there was some rain. We were able to spend time in the main cabin (with food and drink) when this happened, and the wine (Trollinger) was quite good. The... More

We took the boat from Heidelberg to Necharsteinach, stayed there for a time then took the boat back to Nechargemund and stopped there for a while. Explored both small towns, not an awful lot to see. The trip down and back was very scenic and the boats very comfortable. Great day trip if in Heidelberg. Recommended.

The one hour 'tour' of the Neckar is just a circle cruise between the bridges, with minimal commentary in German, none in English. Burn a few calories and save 8 EUR and walk it.

Take a cruise (departs from Stadthalle, eg 12.00 noon) up the Neckar River (through 2 locks) and get off at the second stop, Neckarsteinach (takes just over an hour). Then walk up the hill, past 2 castles (schlossen) one of which is lived in, to the third, a ruin, but you can climb to the top of the tower for... More

Set off on a 3 hour river trip, no English translation of the commentary and no written description of the things we are passing. What a shame, this is a prime visitor activity and we have seen many Japanese and American visitors who are unlikely to understand German. The local tourist board should supply a written text as a minimum.... More

We took the Heidelberg-Eberbach-Heidelberg cruise and were very pleased with the route. Great views of several castles & the cruise took you through several locks in both directions. It was worth the 25 Euros each.
