If you are a person with an innate need of silence who happened to end up in Heidelberg for any random reason, try going out there. Try recollecting the walk in 6 months, 1 year and years that follow. I'd leave it at that.

We took this hike all the way to the monastery at the very top of the mountain. The whole thing there and back was 4 hours of hiking. It was February but still a wonderful hike. Highly recommended. Definitely a highlight of our trip in...More

If you get tired of being in town, this is a great hike/walk. First there are a million stairs to go up but they are rustic and old with a rock wall around them. It was gorgeous. Then it turns into a pavement path, some...More

The Philosophenweg is a series of switchbacks on the other side of the river to the schloss, and provides wonderful views of the old town area and the schloss on the hill. There are a number of steps to climb, and on a hot day...More

From this walkway you get splendid views on the Altstadt ad further almost complete Heidelberg and the castle and the river Neckar with the old bridge. Tip return along the Schlangenweg that ends at the old bridge.

A popular place to visit, Philosophenweg offers great views of Heidelberg and the Neckar. If you have the chance, go on a Sunday morning so you can hear the various church bells ringing from below.

We were visiting in December and it was a gray morning, but we still thoroughly enjoyed our walk on the Philosopher's Way. There are a good number of stairs, but the view from the hill is well worth th effort. I am sure it is...More

Taking this path is an excellent introduction to Heidelberg. The path sits high above the river so you get great views of the town and it’s bridges, churches and castle. There is a path that leads down from the walk to the old bridge leading...More

......but command nice view of the river city. Some staircases and a bit slope at the beginning, which could be tough for seniors (but not hard to walk at all).

A wonderful hike that leads to a great view of Heidelberg, halfway up. There are additional pleasant paths thru the woods that can be followed. If continuing to climb, you will reach the Heidelberg Thingstatte, an enormous amphitheater - held up to 20,000 people -...More
