The view is worth the climb

It's a steep climb, but there's a nice park at the top with great views of the Neckar River, Schloss Heidelberg and the city.

This way offers a great point of view to the old town of Heidelberg and the castle. If you do not want or cannot "climb" the samll and stepp walkway in front of the bridge you can go from the street from the other bridge more west, it is longer but much easier to go up.

I used to jog up here all the time. Now I enjoy walks, taking things slower and appreciating the views. Very clean also.

This was a very nice walk with amazing views of the city. It was a little more intense than we were expecting, but then again maybe we just weren't in the best of shape. It was fun to see the students studying in the gardens and locals utilizing the beauty it holds. We didn't manage to go to the Thingstatte... More

It's worth climbing up the winding path between dank walls to visit this attraction and it's different views of the city, but the climb is steep and you don't get many rewarding views of your progress upwards apart from a couple of vista points. There are benches placed at intervals for weary climbers.

Schlangenweg is a bit tough, but the the fruit garden views compensate it. The Philosophenweg opens marvelous city views, lots of chairs are there to have a rest and enjoy the moment in a sunny day. We spent at least 2 hours there and didn't want to move on at all...

Worth the hike and we should have carried more snacks and water, nice places to take a break and a bite to eat. Beautiful views of the city, especially if you toured the castle first.

This Way provides a circular walking route from the old town. Includes some cobbled sections if you take the steep path up from the old bridge. The reward is a glorious panoramic view of Heidelberg including the castle.

Loved this hike and the gorgeous view of Heidelberg each step of the way. It doesn't seem so steep but it is so be prepared for that!! Bring a bottle of water if you are not an active type. It's also a little slippery as it's all cobblestone. There are plenty of resting points along the way with beautiful views... More

It's one of the best way to relax, walking and see the river and the castle. I would suggest to walk on the philosophenweg during all the year. It is not only nice in spring, but always. Because the surround will change, and you will feel to be in a new place every time.
