This museum is included in the student prison ticket. Although the museum itself is not very big, like three or four rooms of mainly written history, it is interesting if you take some time to read some of its articles. But what you should really go see is the great hall upstairs. You could go ahead and skip the museum... More

University museum is very small, only three rooms, which cover the whole history of university, I expected a bit more, especially about giants who worked there, e.g. Max Weber, almost nothing about this famous sociologist.

The ticket to the Alte Universtat Museum will also get you into the student jail that is around the back of the building. The museum is just a few minutes but must of the signs are in English and German. The signs give you a history of the university from its beginning until modern day (including when women were allowed... More

For me the Heidelberg University holds a special charm, especially when you consider the 700+ year history of the University. Walking around the Old University is a great experience when you think about all the timeless knowledge accumulated there.

When visiting the university, you will get a ticket for three things: the (small) museum, the Old Hall and the Student Prison. The museum is quite interesting, but also a bit dry. Lot's of text, not a lot of historical artifacts. Plus, only part of is was in English, so I gave up on reading all the German. I'd think... More

Entered the University museum and student jail (paid 2.5 Euros, student rate). The museum has detailed information about the university's history. Do visit the old hall upstairs. You can get an English audio guide from the reception, which I think makes the tour 10 times more enjoyable.

A visit to the University is an absolute must do when in Heidelberg. The University Museum in the old building is small but excellent, with all displays and texts available in English. Your ticket includes entry to the Student Jail (Studentenkarzer) nearby. Be sure to check up the Aula upstairs as well!
