A great stop to a hectic travel. Nice time to immerse and loosen the shoelaces. Try the local flavor and feel the weather into the skin regardless of the time of year

In Baden Baden for the Easter Festival I had booked tickets which at somewhere like Glyndebourne or Covent Garden would be fine, but in the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus were not fine. Very high up and on the side of the theatre where you had to lean right forward or you couldn't see the stage at all. The less expensive seats at... More

A short walk from the centre of the town. Good auditorium with good acoustics. Easy to book - we did it online and collected the tickets before the concert, no problem. Very comfortable seats. Serves swanky bites to eat and posh drinks, but rather expensive.

The auditorium, built on the site of the old railway-station, parts of which it incorporates, is an architectural marvel. The artists -- at least at the summer festival -- are usually the Marinsky ensemble from St. Petersburg, under star conductor Valery Gergiev. The programmes are often (but not always) Russian inspired: eg. this past July we had Verdi's Requiem and... More

It is one of the best festivals. Everything is very professional, world stars. It is very large, but all havea very good view. Their programs are ver, very good.

The 06 06 2014 we attended my wife and your servant the wonderful opera "Faust" from the French composer Gounod in the Festspielhaus of Baden Baden. With Sonya Yoncheva, Charles Castronovo and Erwin Schrott, it was delightful, a sans faute from the start to the end. The theatre itself is beautiful (the old part of it) and the modern extension... We attended a performance of Bach's St. John's Passion directed by Peter Sellars and conducted by Sir Simon Rattle with the Berlin Philharmonic. Staging was thought provoking, as is typical for Sellars. Berlin Philharmonic still plays with precision. It was such a pleasure to see Rattle bring warmth and humanity to this piece that is less frequently performed than Bach's... More

The Theater is small and charming, the Festspielhaus (previously the railway station) is huge and used for concerts and operas as opposed to plays. In the latter it is wise not to book seats under the balcony, as acoustic deteriorates with distance.

I watched this Puccini opera on the Berlin Phiharmonic digital website last night from Baden Baden and thought the production was one of the worse I have ever seen. If it was not for the reasonable singing I would of turned it off long before I did. The Berlin Philly have not played a Puccini opera for 30 years since... More

I was at the dress rehearsal for Manon Lescaut by Puccini last week. The Festspielhaus is a majestic building perfect for operas. Its tiers rise steeply so if you sit in the 2nd balcony which is at the top you're still not too far from the stage. If you suffer from vertigo you'd better get a lower spot! As the... More
