Cute little churches
Nov 2018 • Friends
Having grown up quite close to the Island, it is always nice to see the three old romanesque churches of Reichenau. It is a bit of an effort to get there by public transportation, but even on Sunday it can be easily reached from Constance (which has a lot of frequent trains from Zurich e.g.). Located in a quite idyllic settings in Lake Constance my personal highlight is the first church - St Georg. All churches can be visited for free, St Georg limits individual visits in Summer(May-Sep) into two guided tours at 12.30 and 16:00, unless you might already apply for a group tour. In winter you can enter the church though also at other times. The island is not large, thus it only takes 20-30 minutes to hop from church to church. I combined my afternoon trip to Reichenau with a morning visit of the Abbey of St Gallen (Library and Church).

Why UNESCO worldheritage?!
Jul 2018 • Couples
Reichenau might be a "nice" island close to Konstanz and have some history (churches which are closed!! or only partialy open to visitors?!) and also some agricultural interest (growing vegetables, grapes...), but no way UNESCO worldheritage!!

Reichenau an overcrowded recreational aera where plenty of cars, bicycles, campingcars/RV, bikes.... etc endanger your life when you take a walk!

Once and never again :(

Spectacular and unexpected
May 2017 • Solo
Firstly, it took a bit of effort getting there with public transport. From Konstantz, I found my way to Reichenau Baden train station, then caught a local bus which took me into the centre of Reichenau island at the tourist information centre. The bus driver only spoke German and wouldn't accept my Eurail pass, which normally worked on all buses and trains, but it only cost me about 3 Euro each way.

The abbeys or churches on the island are quite spread out. It's easy to get there by car, but the buses didn't run too often, and each were a few kilometres apart. I chose to walk and it wasn't that bad. I passed a few glasshouses growing vegetables and assorted plants, it was quite pleasant.

I was able to reach Saint Mark which was open to the public, and St Peter & Paul which was closed. St Mark looked spectacular inside, even though it was quite small. St Peter & Paul still looked amazing from the outside. Well worth a visit if you're doing a day trip to Lake Constance.

An amazing gem.

Worth a days visit to see the monastery which is quite close to the lake.
We decided to drive on afterwards and went for an early dinner at a lakeside bar and restaurant just below a major campsite. There's adequate free parking, and it's only a 5 minute short level walk down to the lake. Awesome views. Sit and watch the boats.

Growers paradise!
Aug 2017 • Couples
This was our second visit to this amazing island and it was just as lovely as the first visit. We cycled round the island taking in the beauty both of the scenery and of the crops growing happily in the sunshine. We had a delicious fish lunch en route and also stopped for an ice cream as it was hot. Cycling was easy and the best way to get around. We would have liked more time to enjoy the island but we had to catch the boat back home so will just have to go back again sometime!

Interesting Tour and History
Oct 2015 • Couples
A pretty interesting tour of the church and surrounding grounds. It was a pretty nice area with interesting architecture and history. Frankly, due to the tour size, I had a hard time hearing a lot of what was being said, and therefore don't remember much from it.

Interesting Island of History and Agriculture
Sep 2015
Stopped by leaving Konstanz, and visited the Church of Peter & Paul -- lots of interesting ancient history, and a good museum display to accompany. Do the exhibit before visiting the church for extra clarity.

Great alternative to Mainau Island
Sep 2015 • Couples
Reichenau Island is about 10 km from Constance and there are great bike trails to get there. Most of the restaurants and supermarkets around Constance get their produce from that island, which is very beautiful, quaint, not as busy as Mainau (the flower island). The panorama is fantastic and the people are very welcomy. Biking is a great way to visit, whereas you cannot get your bike on Mainau Island.
