Silk is woven into the history of Lyon and this museum is a great way to learn about it. Take the metro to Croix Russe, an experience in itself.

One more place to visit in Lyon to learn more about the city culture and history, how it became the center of silk production in Europe. A guided visit is recommended, as the guide also explain the mechanics of the machine. Beautiful silks are on display and for sale.

This was definitely a highlight of our time in Lyon. The couple who manage the museum are passionate about silk weaving and its history, and it's a joy to listen to them enthuse. The museum itself is modest, but it is the talk and accompanying demonstration (check their website and flyers for times) which is unmissable. We learned so much... More

A small workshop with a store where we understood how important the silk was to Lyon history and how important still is. Small place with a workshop/guide tour visit (Ing/Spa/Fra/Ger) that unfortunately he did not catch the proper schedules. On the store/shop, you can find the smooth silk elements, with scarfs made of pure silk of an outstanding quality. While... More

A must for those who love silk and its history. Quick but all encompassing and interesting exhibit, as well as silk shop. Lovely owner and employees who kindly answered all sorts of questions as we did not do the guided visit, and owner stayed after hours to chat with us. This museum house has become private but a free visit... More

We wandered over to the Maison des Canuts just in time for the tour and demonstration in English. The little museum is interesting but small, but the demonstration of the loom was really fascinating! I would definitely recommend as an insight into the history of Lyon.

Could be more interesting. 2 rooms with some objects and little explanation. I got the feeling that they are there to attract in-store purchases

Dear Frederica50, It is true that we are a small museum. Actually, we are more a workshop than a museum. That's why we offer twice a day guided tours into our workshop to see a demonstration of weaving and explain all about the silk history. If one day you will come back, don't hesitate to join this tour. Regards, La... More

We joined a tour which was mainly French-speaking, but the guide did his best to explain all the main points of the demonstration in English, so we learned a great deal of information. Watching the guide operate the loom, weaving the intricate patterns from memory and observing the length of time it took to complete a few millimetres of fabric... More

Interesting visit of the museum explaining the history of the silk trade in Lyon and its importance in the development of the town. Nice display of antique equipment showing the fabric manufacturing. Nice shop with beautiful and tempting silk scarves and items.
