Some stunning scenery

Revisited briefly an area we had been to before. Drive carefully, especially where the roads are narrow and cut into the cliffs.

Trekked the plateau for a week on snow shoes. Only met other people twice. The remoteness and the beauty of the area is stunning. - Approach the plateau from the North (Villard-de-Lans) or West if you want to avoid steep climbs, for example when traveling on ski randonne nordique / cross country skis. - The passes on the Eastern side... A place of great natural beauty. Some of the nature trails will take you to wild areas and unspoilt animal territories with a chance to watch chamois and groundhogs. You will need good hiking shoes and plenty of water and you can stop at some of the picturesque village farms to have a rest on your way back.

A bit outside the traditional places to visit this nature parc offers everything any other more popular parc has but in a more "relaxed" environment. Hiking, sports, all is available but without the waiting queus you get elsewhere. Some spectacular mountain views free on top! Just go there and check it out.

We have the opportunity of visiting this area every two years. We have a friend who lives in Grenoble, and knows the lay of the land like the back of his hand. We have our own local tour guide each time we visit. There is something new with each visit. This summer, we got to share this beautiful area with... More

Very quiet nature reserve that offers a wide variety of beautiful landscapes. Perfect for artists, sportive people (hiking, running and cycling) and nearby ski-resorts. I ould recommend a 3-day visit and enjoy the different spots of the park. Each location offers new but different views on the fascinating landscape. There is some tourism, but the region is much more quiet... More

We hiked the north trail near Ferme Durand, starting and ending near Sassenage, and it was great. But what was best is that you have at least 5-6 good day-trip loops as well as possibilities for through-hiking. Grenoble is a fantastic "home base" for this.
