If you want to encounter a hostile attitude to ruin an otherwise lovely vacation in France, this is the spot for you. We tried three times on two different visits to Annecy to view the chateau. The first time we simply made the mistake of arriving midday, at around 1:00 p.m., and it was closed for lunch. We should have... More

Really nothing to report, you can walk around the castle and see some not so interesting exhibits. Not really worth the time and money unless you want a quick excursion through an old chateau.

Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area, the building itself is very interesting as are some of the permanent exhibits. Some great views from the windows. It was also good for a break from the scorching heat.

Main issue is that all the explanatory panels are in the French language only. So even if your French is passable, it is not very satisfying to have to translate every bit of information. Signs are few, so navigating the site is tricky. The interior is essentially an art installation. The space left tells the story of Lake Annecy -... More

One of the high points when visiting Annecy, is this beautiful castle very close to the ancient town (in fact, part of it), the other one is the lake and the surrounding parks. The castle is under restoration, but a lot of it is already done and in perfect conditions to be visited, expositions are currently performed there (paints, history... More

Nice view from the castle on the city and the lake. The castle itself is not that interesting, and the pieces of art inside are very provincial

Lovely restored building with interesting exhibits and views out over Annecy. Its a fairly easy walk for a fit person up the hill.

This Castle and Museum is well worth taking time to visit - it is great value for money and has many different exhibits including old and contemporary art, an Aquarium of lake fishes and an account of how the castle was restored to its now glory.

This is an excellent 14th century medieval château from the outside and is very enticing. The château has been transformed into museums. There is a small part of the museum dedicated to wooden chests of the time and some medieval armoury items, however most of the museums are dedicated to various kinds of art and have little to do with... I like to visit castles and "chateaux" that are as they were when people lived in them, and if a guided tour is available, all the better. But this castle is like a classroom exercise. Each room is chock-full of maps, diagrams, posters, TV screens, etc, so that you really can't see the rooms themselves -- just the history lesson... More
