I love medieval buildings so this was no exception. It functioned as a prison at some time. Interesting to walk around. doesn't take too long either.

It happened to be some kind of special heritage day when we were in Annecy and as a result the buses and also all the museums were free, We might not otherwise have gone into this museum, The Palais d'Ile, located right in the river...More

Annecy had been highly touted as being very beautiful as indeed it was on a small scale. To compare it to Venice though is an exaggeration, in spite of the canals. And it was incredibly crowded.

This 800 year old prison is the iconic landmark of Anncey. Unless you want to see the inside "prison " it is not necessary to go in. The place is very small and cramped. There is work being done on the outside also.

The small building is quite stunning from the outside, built on a small island on wooden piles. Inside we could visit only the ground floor, since the upper floor contains a museum. The cells and narrow corridors were quite foreboding, as was the sloping wooden...More

The key part of this unique building have been standing for around 800 years. Shaped like the prow of a ship sitting in the middle of the Canal du Thiou, It has been used as a prison for much of its life (including, most recently,...More
