A PRETTY BODY OF WATER

I first saw the lake heading down to the Royal Abbey at Hautecombe where people were disembarking to visit the abbey. There were some pleasure craft on the lake. The following morning I saw some of its southeastern area. The lake is appealing to the eye.

Nice lake but not enough bars and restaurants. Everything was closed during our stay. It's a shame...

You can cycle about 15 kolometers on a bike path. Very nice. Nice italian ice cream place as well. (not cheap)

A Jura Savoie jewel with trekking opportunities near and afar

Deep 18 x 2 km water reservoir with impressive hills on the west and Aix les Bains the major conurbation with a littoral and a town some kilometres away. Worth taking the time to circumnavigate and enjoy the vistas. Beware of the signs and the narrowing road of the western shore. It has a wild flair and it is meromictic. Plenty of places to stay, bathing and sailing activities allowed.

Better signs please

So, this is a round about way to advise you to AVOID Aix les Bains. This is the better place. Really lovely setting and we found a nice walk through the woods to a nature reserve and old medieval chateau of Thomas II de Savoie.
However, we first got badly lost in Aix les Bains. We parked and followed signs to the lake but they ran out and after 20 minutes, we went back to the car and drove on.l you can see the lake but only from a height and at a distance. The walk took us under a very dodgy railway underpass which I would highly recommend to avoid. Honestly, we could not find anything positive about the place but really did like here. Better signes in Aix les Bains would be helpful. Go to Lac du Bourget.

Nice location, It is very nice to travel around the lake and to travel up to the mountes around the lake. there is beautiful view from there.

What a fabulous place... loads to do, boats, paddle boats, bike riding or just relax , your choice.
Great range of food venues along the lake. Just a beautiful place.

Lake in Aix les Bains

Large freshwater lake in Aix les Bains. Lots of things to do, boating, cycling, walking, thermal spa, restaurants, etc. Nice lake and less touristy than some other lakes in France. Lots of things to do in Aix les Bains and on the lake.

Nice Lake

We stayed at a campsite a few k north of the Lake but made a point of nipping down to one of the local “beaches” to enjoy a dip, only 3euros to park up, there were life guards, toilets and plenty of room to sit in either the shade or in the lovely sunshine.

The water was refreshing but not as cold as i was expecting.

A great day well worth a visit.

The photos include some views from the croix du nivelet to give you some perspective of the size etc.
