If you're in the area you have to put this on your list. It's hard to describe the experience but it's just mindblowing to imagine this was built as an actual fort and habitation. What a location, what boldness, what hardship. Inspiring leaders these must have been that built this and guarded over their people. We were actually at Buoux... More

A very interesting site with absolutely spectacular views. If you can, do the secret staicase. We'll worth a visit.

Very few tourists and the big staircase are some of the highlights of the site. Having done small village upon small village in Luberon, this was a bit different of an experience in that there weren't that many tourists, but plenty of beautiful views of the region. The staircase which leads out of the area is something not to be... More

If you like visiting old ruins...with a good view at the top, then this is for you. I'd suggest that you check the weather before setting off or maybe give them a phone call. The fort is closed in wet or windy weather and if there is a possibility of a thunderstorm. This is due to the terrain, steep and... More

Pleasantly surprised by this little gem in the Luberon. Entrance is only a modest 5 or 6 Euro's but you get a great view over the surrounding area and a glimps into times long gone. The size of the site suprised me, I think we easily walked around for an hour (maybe even longer). Don't expect a well preserved site,... More

This is an extraordinary natural site. You pass under a huge cantilevered rock to access the bottom of the fort, which is actually a natural stone castle which was populated and fortified since Roman times, and probably before. It was continuously occupied until Louis XIV dismantled it. Each epoch has left traces of a vivid imagination to make the place... More

Good hike even for and old fart like me. I'm 65 but I was able to handle the trek up to the top of the fort. Be careful. Not much to keep you from going over the edge but a few signs. The secret stairs are not for the faint-of-heart, but if you have good shoes and some testicular fortitude... More

This was great for people who like hiking and history. It's a workout to the top with some of the most amazing defensive fortifications I have seen layered up the hill. Views are incredible. Sketchy coming down the hidden stairs. Don't try it if they are wet. Hard to get to but one of my favorite things I did in... More

Our visit to Fort de Buoux was great. The hike is steep at some stages, so be sure to bring a child carrier for young infants. The view from the top is spectacular and very well worth the hike.

This fort far exceeded our expectations. The entry fee was a modest 4euros and it is great value for money. The climb up was quite hard work, but worth the effort. If you are feeling brave, go down by the hidden steps at the back.
