For over 400 years, the Citadel rings the city. Element of the defence of the port the most important between Antibes and Toulon for centuries, it is now one of the few monuments of this magnitude of the Var coast. Proud of its rich maritime past, Saint-Tropez has decided to create a modern museum in the dungeon of the town's citadel, allowing all visitors to discover the daily lives of men and women who shaped over the centuries the Saint-Tropez of today.

Due to its location on top of the hill you can get some very nice pictures from the top of the museum. There's a small fee to get in and there are a lot of low doorways in the museum.

A nice walk from harbor to citadel overlooking the surrounding areas. As others have said besides the fort there is a great maritime museum and a strange outdoor art exhibit. These are probably great works of art but to modern for me. The Citadel with...More

The Citadel is well worth the 3 euro entrance fee. You learn a great deal about the maritime history of the area. What's nice is that the museum is inside the citadel (and with a toilet)-- on a hot day, this is invaluable. For a...More

This was a good day trip destination along with the rest of the the town. There was a great deal of information which covers Saint-Tropez history from early in pre-medieval to the modern day (roughly 1970s). The museum deals with the technical and personal aspects...More

The view from the citadel is great and the museum is fantastic! The walk up from the port or old town is not too demanding, the town map makes it seem further than it really is. A must to see and do when in town.

You have to walk up a long, long hill of steps to get to this place. Admission was only 3Euro per person. They did a nice job with restoration. The maritime museum is small but nice. The best part of this visit was the amazing...More

The maritime museum within the Citadelle is brilliant - not to be missed! Walking up to the Citadelle from the town is a worthwhile excursion in itself. To then go into the Citadelle costs 3 Euros which to my mind is a real value for...More

Although this museum tells the story of St Tropez's history it was disappointingly average. It's saving grace is the view from the top floor.

A very interesting visit, tastefully restored and a great place for the views. The entry fee is extremely reasonable too.

Hello, there is a path on the Citadel feet where you can have a lovely view to St. Tropez harbour. Even if the view from the Citadel is of course worth to see.
