Leave Turin in the morning and have lunch at Cuneo station buffet. Take the Ventimiglia train at 1440 and change at Breil-sur-Roya at 1650 for the local train into Nice which takes an hour or stay on the Italian train to Ventimiglia and change there for Nice. These are scheduled trains, not tourist specials. Much of the journey through between... More

Two hour train ride from Nice Ville station in March, there is no commentary however there are some views - if you have never seen mountains before. Going to Tende, sit on the left side in the direction the train is going, there is are no views if you sit on the right, and therefore returning, sit on the right,... More

I had seen a video of this train journey thanks to the Dutch TV broadcaster EO's series 'Rail Away' in which the programme covered the journey from Ventimiglia to Cuneo. I was going to take a different route and terminate my journey at Tende, rather than continue to the Italian city of Cuneo. Even though my journey was truncated, I... More

The train ride is amazing, no doubt about that, at any time of the year. However, if you go out of season nothing is open in Tende (apart from the museunm) and you are stuck there for 3 hours. Also, the Zou card is only available in peak season so we ended up paying over 60 euros for the trip.... More

We picked up the train (9h30 from Nice) at Sospel station. From there it's about 90 mins of tunnels, twists and turns as the train wends its way to Tende. During holiday periods there is a commentary (in both French and English) on this particular service. The lady commentator is a mine of interesting information, although the incessant commentary can... More

This is a most remarkable two hour train journey into the hinterland of Nice. The train climbs into the mountains through a clever arrangement of tunnels and viaducts. The scenery is stunning During part of the year there is a free commentary in French and English which adds to the experience. We have done the trip twice and enjoyed it... More

We took the train de merveilles on a rainy Sunday in October from Nice to Tende. It was modern, smooth and comfortable. The guide was lovely and brought everyone up into the first class carriage to hear the commentary. While all the scenery was beautiful, our guide was great as she told us when to look right and left or... More

We never knew you could do this trip up into the mountains and came across it quite by accident. You catch the train at Nice and it's a two hour trip to Tende where the train finishes. ( ours did although I think some may go a little further) We had three hours to wander round the town there and... More

This train runs from Nice up to the town of Tende in the mountains. It goes through really lovely countryside and terminates in the beautiful little town, with many old, narrow streets, churches and a museum. The one leaving Nice just after 9:00 a.m. includes commentary by a lady actually on the train and there is an opportunity to go... More

It looks like Eiffel has constructed it. We took a train to Monaco. Station is clean and well organized.
