We didn't know this place existed until we visited the Cocteau museum. It is one of the highlights of our trip (Along with Chapelle St Pierre in Villefranche) The murals are beautiful and thought provoking.

Jean Cocteau is very much present in Menton with a museum, a bastion and the wedding room. Everything in this exceptional room was designed by Cocteau: the paintings, the carpet, the chairs and even the candelabras. The result is really worth a visit. Entrance price...More

This small and relatively simple marriage room was designed by the local genius Jean Cocteau in an original poetic style that one would have a hard time finding elsewhere. The furniture, carpet and wall paintings format a whole. A read up on Cocteau is advised...More

The Marriage Hall in the Town Hall was decorated by Jean Cocteau in the 1950s and is a great example of his work. Walls and ceiling are completely covered with his striking designs, full of symbolism. Lamps, seats, mirrors and doors also designed by Cocteau....More

A good location to see a wedding party preparing for the civil ceremony or coming out of the City Hall. Wait across the street from the building at the small plaza to view. If you're fortunate to be a guest of a wedding you will...More

Located in the town hall, and free, this louche-looking "salle des marriages" looks like a 1920s cocktail lounge. Or the sitting room of a bordello. The Cocteau drawings on walls and ceiling are the reason to go.

It's worth getting the guided tour to the Salle des Mariages - Thursday afternoon at the reception desk of the Mairie. The guide describes the symbolism of the different wall paintings and Cocteau's inspiration for each. A pleasant and interesting visit.
