I recently went to a 3 hour cooking class at L’Atelier Cuisine de Mathilde and I cannot recommend the experience enough. Mathilde herself is really lovely and welcoming, and spoke both French and English with me, because I am not yet fluent in French. At the class, we made prawn raviolis, chicken forestière and lemon meringue tart- which is my favourite dessert! The recipes themselves were not too hard to follow and I am confident that I would be able to recreate them at home. I especially enjoyed making and piping meringue onto the lemon tarts, because I had never made meringue before. Mathilde even gave us a blow torch to slightly brown the meringue. After having made the food, we all ate it together as a group and it was really enjoyable eating and speaking to such a varied group of people. If you are interested in a cooking class in Aix, definitely come here.

My husband and I really enjoyed our cooking experience with Mathilde. She is a very friendly and relaxed person, but totally on top of her program, and speaks very good English. Very organized in her preparation, and clear in her instruction. We extended our appreciation for Aix and provencal culture via her introduction to the history of the town and all the little details of what to look for in the market. Lots of samples to be had by her pre-arrangement. We got home and have been inspired to go to farmer's markets locally, and know what kind of questions to ask now! The cooking class was just plain fun! Not intended as heavy duty serious french cooking class, but still containing plenty of useful prep tips. She had a lovely assistant, Isabelle, who smoothed the way by keeping things cleaned up, and helping out in many ways. After we did all the cooking, the group of 10 of us (Australian, Candian, American) sat down at lovely table, shared wine and stories, and oohed and aahed over what we had just made. It was really a delightful experience, even for my normally not very outgoing husband, and remains a special memory of our time in Provence, among all the other wonderful things we saw and did. Highly recommended. I would do it again any time!

This cooking class was fun and informative. Mathilde is professional but light hearted. The walk through the market was very enjoyable followed by a very short walk back to her cooking studio. The menu for our day was interesting and can be achieved once we get home. Highly recommend

We loved our visit to Aix but especially the cooking class with Mathilde and a fascinating international group of eight others. Mathilde is warm and welcoming. We loved the introduction to French cuisine, especially the orientation to the local market. We learned and cooked a fantastic lunch—goat cheese charlottes, risotto with asparagus and shrimp, and meringue and passion fruit domes. Delicious! We especially appreciated her willingness to accommodate my need to be gluten-free by adjusting the menu and ingredients. Merci, Mathilde—et à la prochaine!

Four friends and I took the market tour and cooking class. Mathilde acquainted us with the history of the region and then brought us to the market and some nearby shops. She pointed out things I hadn’t known, such as the sale of already-roasted beets by vendors, and how you could tell a farmer from a reseller. We learned about the variety of items sold in patisseries, and coffees roasted locally. Loved everything we got to taste! Our cooking class was fun for all skill levels and we all enjoyed our meal. So nice to be able to bring new cooking techniques back home with me.
