On the morning of our last day in Aix my wife and I discovered the flower market in the square near the Hotel de Ville and the watchtower. It was a small market with a beautiful selection of flowers.

Okay, it's my shortcoming (I admit a flaw every now and then) but ... my socks are still on (as in: this did not knock them off). Ho Hum. Few stand with flowers. Okay, the Town Hall is pretty spectacular and the Clock Tower is totally awesome but this market did not hit it to first base (American baseball jargon). We did find more energized markets during our all-too-brief Aix visit and this, sadly, was not one of them.

There really is something to the expression “stop and smell the roses”. The Marche aux Fleurs is a small, yet beautiful market that gives you the sense that if we all took time to appreciate beauty in things like flowers, we would be happier and more at peace with ourselves, our neighbours and the world. If you are in Aix a few days, stop by this market for a bouquet of beautiful, fresh-cut flowers. It will brighten your day to buy them and to share them.
