Stumbled upon this gem of a museum
Jun 2020
We attended a wedding at a gothic church that faces the same square. I visit museums in every city that I visit and decided this was the one to see. My mind was blown by the works that I was able to casually admire having recently lined up for hours to see similar works at the Philadelphia museum of art. Granted, this is Paul Cezanne's city so I expected to see some great works, the fact that I did not have to fight to get an unobstructed view gave me joy.

If you love art this is essential viewing
Feb 2020 • Friends
Not huge, but comprehensive, this art gallery/museum is in two separate buildings and a ticket to one gets you into the other for no extra charge. With twenty Picassos, Cezannes, lots of Granets, a Rembrandt, Monet and lots of other European neoclassical artists, this collection is nirvana for any art buff. I highly recommend it as part of your visit to this gorgeous city.

Musee Granet is a fantastic museum in Aix
Mar 2019 • Couples
My wife and I visited the Musee Granet during our visit to Aix. It has several Cezannes, who was a native of the area. It was a very interesting museum with a large variety of modern works.

Wonderful Sculptures, Cezanne Works on Display
Jan 2020
Spent about one hour looking at the exhibits in this museum. The sculptures were quite beautiful. There are about six paintings by Cezanne, including one of Mount Ste-Victoire. I believe there was also a work by Rembrandt. It's a small museum, but admission also allows you to go to the Granet XX to see contemporary art.

Really interesting museum
Jul 2019 • Solo
Somehow I walked right by due to its former church exterior. I walked up the narrow streets a few times, then looked up and found it. Had some nice Cezanne artwork and marble sculptures. Was enjoying wandering through Aix-en-Provence on a warm day in July 2019.

Worth visiting but contents generally not exceptional
Nov 2019 • Couples
The contents were interesting. There are some notable works but overall my visit was fairly swift. The modern art on the first floor did not detain me long but some may appreciate such things.

Musee Granet

Lovely museum walking distance from the Aix Center. Bottom floor is the highlight with works from Cézanne, Rubins and Gaspari. The beautiful St. Saveur Cathedral is steps away. Nice outing for a Sunday when most of Aix shuts down.

Sorry, but not very impressed
Oct 2019
This was our only disappointment in Aix. The town is delightful, the people are charming, the food is exceptional , but this was a bit of a let down
The entrance ticket gets you to 2 museums...the Musee Granet which features a mixture of paintings collected by Granet himself and some Cezanne's and nearby a second small collection of modern art in an old converted church . It is not at all expensive but in my humble opinion, the art on display at the main museum is not very good either. I'm not a great Cezanne fan so that surely affects my judgement but there were less than half a dozen pictures in the main gallery that I thought worthy of much attention.

I am also not much of a modern art fan but to my surprise I enjoyed the second museum more. There are some Picasso paintings and some others that I'm sure others
would like more than I did.

Interesting collection, but not at all what I expected.
Oct 2019
Almost missed the Cézanne collection located in the basement floor – there were less than 10 of his painting in a small room there with very little information. Perhaps better signage would be helpful. The museum entry included a second site, the Chappell, which unfortunately was closed on both the Sunday we visited and the next day, Monday, so even though we had a 24 hour ticket, we obviously didn't get to see that. Yet the entry was full price?
