This could have been an interesting although expensive (€7) visit if there had been some information in English. The museum is situated in an old and grand house, there are several rooms devoted to dyes, pattern making and fabrics, however there is NO information available in English. Many dresses are on display from over the years and there is a... More

We can salute the dedication of the new owners of Souleiado to the glorious Provence tradition of cotton prints and wish them well in their task of reviving the brand. Tarascon can certainly use an economic kick. This beautiful building has been home to a cotton print factory since 1806. You may or may not get all the intricacies of... More

A hidden gem in Provence which gives a historical sense and explanation to the place and time and also gives you that "WOW" feeling! Incredibly beautiful designs that are inspired from India and France, all made between 1870 and 1930 that are now used for the company's fashion line. Historical house and fairy tale setting. I really think this is... More

This museum is the history of Provencal fabric and the Souleiado family of fabric printers. The original workshop and many of the block print blocks are still there, as is a startling array of fabric samples, dresses, quilts, and knicknacks from that era. The one bad thing is the museum does not allow photographs, but they also don't have any... More

OK, it's not the cheapest museum in the world but it is quite a unique one - anyone with an interest in fashion and design will love this place. The museum takes you through the whole history of Souleido (and it is noticeable how many of today's fashion designers are inspired by the fabrics) as well as rooms dedicated to... More

This was quite an unexpected treat. Here they have displays of the textiles and fashions through the ages, and fascinating set ups of how they did the dying and printing of the traditional patterns. There are also some lovely old quilts that are quite unique. The more modern styles are on mannequins that you can walk around as if part... More

I was disappointed in this museum because I expected to see much more about the process of printing 'Provencal' fabrics. The brochure states, "You will learn the secrets of fabric making ...". Admittedly my reasonable French wasn't up to understanding all the information displayed but I came away none the wiser about fabric printing. The 40,000 wood blocks stored in... More

Yes, you pay 7 euros to go through the museum, and much of the info is in French. But the actual building is quite elegant and the photos of people using the blocks to make the prints, as well as some original clothing and the story of how the fabrics have been popular in a variety of places and styles,... Interesting museum about traditional French fabrics. The boutique had numerous items of clothing, kitchen/dining fabrics, etc.
