Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a remarkable structure which dominates the skyline of Poitiers, but in a curiously under-stated way. The cathedral is not typically blingy, but is airy and jaw-dropping in it scale.
There are some beautiful stained glass windows, remarkable (if weather-beaten) carvings and impressive paintings. The building belongs to it milieu, but marks the edge of the old town, before one quickly is reminded that much of Poitiers is modern & unexceptional.

If you want to see a magnificent cathedral, this is it! This church was built by Alienor of Aquitaine and her husband Henry II of England. They’re portrayed on the bottom the great window right in the front of the church. The height of the roof is incredible, and it’s probably one of the cleanest churches I’ve seen. There were some renovations going on though but the closed parts were just small portions. A church built over 800 years ago needs its touching ups now and then!

Well worth a visit. Only the way down and catching a glimpse of the front for the first time will make you awe. Can’t believe this was built in 12th century.

Less than 10 minutes walk through streets from centre. This is superb, especially considering its history. It is worth it for the stained glass windows alone in my opinion. Lovely, quiet and serene.

A little further away from the other sites, but worth the walk.
It is downhill a little way, maybe an extra 6-10 mins walk, but use the route that says 'Cathedral'...the other one is a little less pleasant..!
It is a great Cathedral...does France have any bad Cathedrals?
It is where Eleanor of Aquitaine married the future Henry 11 of England.

A real must in Poitiers the churches are different and stunning. The coming together for the different churches is quite something and adds to the real beauty of the old town art of the city. It is quite something g and really worth taking time to visit inside and out.

Free to enter. No rush. Just beauty.

This is a great cathedral with some fine recently discovered frescoes and some beautiful early choir stalls with lovely carvings. Also some fine gothic portals. Entry is free but donations are encouraged. The cathedral is quite a few minutes walk from the town centre. It seems strange that there are no shops or cafes anywhere near the cathedral so far as I can tell. It would surely get more visitors if there was. It's not far from the baptistery and the museum but again not much sign of refreshments.

A very large and light cathedral in the French Gothic style with some interesting stained glass. The choir stalls from the 17th century are very well preserved. It is a slightly unusual style with very shallow transepts. Set among attractive old buildings, it is well worth a visit.
