You feel you "ought to" visit the local cathedraL,but this particular cathedral isn't that impressive. Short walk away from the sea front and shops to locate it.

We stopped in here while on the walking tour of La Rochelle, absolutely breath taking, the architecture, the windows so beautiful. Sat for a while to reflect and lit a candle in memory of a departed friend. Well worth a visit

The Cathédrale was just a block away from where we were staying, so we stopped in on the way to the Vieux Port. This is a church, concentrated in 1784, is a lovely piece of architecture with gorgeous stained glass and side chapels. It is bright and a lovely place of peace and serenity.

The exterior is quite dull, but the interior has some fabulous points. The stained glass windows are exceptional and there are some fine descriptive paintings. There are also some great carvings and the organ is really spectacular and enormous.

This cathedral had some stunning history and artwork inside - even if it is a bit unassuming and understates from the outside. The ceilings and walls are steeped with paintwork and it really is impressive. Quiet and well kept, this is definitely worth a visit if passing.
