My husband and I have visited La Rochelle many times over the years and at different times of the year and it has never disappointed us. Especially this time with the big wheel giving you a different perspective of the old port!

During our day and a half we enjoyed the views and the street musicians (les plaies mobiles). Our boat trip to Fort Boyard enabled us to grasp a sense of the coastal geography. The port is lined with bars and restaurants that attract tourists and...More

What a charming port with lovely cafes and restaurants and shopping. This is what Europe is truly all about.

An old port with new bits round about. Lots of eating places but if you want a basic and simple sandwich and pastry lunch find Roger Sicard just off the port. Great food at distinctly cheap prices. Otherwise, to go upmarket a bit, there are...More

Very lively spot, night and day. great to walk around and people watch. We also did the 3 towers, lots of steps but worth it for the views.

Very atmospheric, bustling harbour surrounded by lots of places to eat and drink in buildings that to me seemed typically French. There appeared to be relatively little new development in this area giving it a very traditional and unspoilt feel.

Definitely loads to see . Make sure you see the Aquarium. It's at the port near the towers. Takes about an hour to fully enjoy!!

I am partially disabled (crutches) and didn't take the bus. The ferry is accessible IIRC and the ride is quite nice if the weather is good. The port area is very compact, easy to navigate. The main streets are no problem... More
