This 12th C church is typical of its time and comes with a fascinating history. As with most French historical edifices, it is very well maintained and is as much in use today as it was when built. The visit is all the more interesting if you look it up on the net BEFORE you go or even pick up a little guide in the almost adjacent book store. The church is very unusual in that the organ is BEHIND and above the altar. Will visit for Mass next Sunday…….

Visited church today, very nice inside, cool on hot day. Beautiful through out. Most interesting pulpit of wood and stone. Stone an interesting feature of many floors in the building, more than 15 types arranged to create lovely patterns. Stained glass windows were beautiful and well illuminated by the sun.
A peaceful place to pray and reflect on Gods love and presence on a church lace where worship has taken place for 100's year.

Located in the centre of town the interior is surprisingly bigger than first impressions due to it being enlarged over the years. The wooden pulpit is beautifully carved although it's difficult to fully appreciate due to the dark interior. There are numerous stain glass windows but because the church is surrounded by buildings on all sides it's difficult for light to get through. You can see where elements have been restored and there's a plan near the entrance detailing when and which areas have been added - next to it is an explanation of the history in English as well as other languages. Worth a visit to appreciate the architecture and history.

We found the decoration quite unusual in the church. Th main central part was quite plain with very little decoration while the side aisles near the altar has been decorated in a very ornate style. We wondered why the whole church hadn't been done in the same style?

This is a delightful church set in one of Cognac's many pedestrian thoroughfares. Entry is free to this Catholic church - which dates back to the 12th Century.

The architecture is particularly interesting with both Romanesque and Gothic styles showing its evolution over time.

If you like churches I'd definitely recommend this one. Although nestling between other buildings (so a restricted view of the exterior), the interior is sumptuous.

We were looking for a patisserie in the mall when we came across the beautiful old Eglise Saint-Leger by chance.

We wandered in a found a very serene place to worship. There are numerous beautiful altars around the walls. The stained glass windows are all beautiful and the locals should feel proud of their church.

It is always impressive to visit a church which is still used as a place of worship after so many centuries, a witness to the deep faith of many generations. The original Roman church has undergone many additions and destructions over its chequered history. I love the stained glass windows and the rosace window.

It looks squeezed between buildings but when you walk in its as vast as any other church of its size. The coolness you get was much appreciated by those amongst us wanting to escape the streets heat. It reminded me of Notre dam from outside. We walked out of the side into a lovely little courtyard adjourning the library.
