Currently being worked on, April 2017, but it is still possible to appreciate it from outside the barriers. I also say it ten years ago. A monument dedicated to the US Soldiers and Marines who died fighting in the surrounding area during World War I. It is on the hillside to the North of Chateau-Thierry. No fee to see it... More

The memorial to American forces at Chateau Thierry, dedicated in 1937, sits to the west of town on a rise. The simple yet powerful memorial, currently undergoing renovation of its main plaza, contains the names of engagements fought by U.S. forces in France in WWI as well as contains some additional information and great views. Fronted by two massive statues,... More

This place is just a 5 minute drive above Chateau-Thierry, and 100% value gto drive up. Independnet on the weather and your group there is something nice. We had madium weather, but the view was still impressive, and seeing the monument from close is definitely worth it. If weather permits there are walkways, you can really enjoy just a short... More

My rating is based on the fact that my grandpa, whom I never knew fought in WWI and Chateau-Thierry. First, unless you like walking I would recommend driving the road to the Memorial. Please note that as of right now renovations are being done so you cannot walk right up to the Memorial. It was a solemn, reverent visit for... More

High on a hill overlooking Chateau-Thierry is a huge memorial to the US Marines and Army who fought and died in such great numbers as to boggle the mind. Take a picnic, consider the war.

can't begin to describe the reverent and somber feeling of this place. a beautiful and fitting tribute to the many lives lost preserving freedom. RIP Its a haul into nowhere, but if you're a military man, you won't regret the trip

It's west of the city up a steep incline. I read other reviews saying it was a 30 minute walk from the city center, so my husband and I decided to do it. It's really more like an hour. We used our GPS and put it in walking mode. We went up on a street called Charles Henry. It was... More

If you are in the area or had a relative who fought here, make sure to visit. But I don't believe I would make the trip here from Paris just to visit this monument. The American cemetery nearby and battleground were well worth the trip so all together we enjoyed our visit.

Majestic Monument worth stopping to visit if in Chateau Thierry area for WW1 sites. Suggest you use this stop as a filler in your itinerary of these sites since it appears to remain open into the summer evenings. Other sites such as the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery & Memorial at Belleau Wood close on the dot at 1700 even if people... More
