Informative

I am not really a military history buff but we spent an interesting and informative hour here. No English tours but most of the exhibits have English information.

Saumur is a town obsessed with and based around horses, and the cavalry museum is just one aspect of this horse focus. The displays are very interesting and it is well worth a brief detour from the main street attractions, just for an hour or so. Very well mounted exhibitions.

Saumur is a beautiful city but if you can tear yourself away from its attractions this museum is a short walk from the centre and is well worth a visit. Obviously, you need to be interested in history and cavalry, but then, you wouldn't visit if you weren't! It's also worth pointing out that we are talking here about French... More

Very interesting subject & superbly located at the old French cavalry school area in Saumur. Takes you on an historical journey of cavalry in French wars and peace. Very nice exhibitions of uniforms, arms, equipment, equipage and horses over time. Leads up to the cavalry's successor - mechanization as with Tanks. Horses nearby, but we didn't see them. Definitely worth... More

This is a real surprise as a specialist military museum. I'm not an expert, but found it extremely interesting, so for someone really in the know it will be absolutely fascinating. We too were fortunate to see the Waterloo battle landscape and had a very interesting, lengthy, chat with its creator. Apparently he has exhibited his huge tableau at various... More

There is a lot to see here, and we were lucky to see a mock up of the battle of Waterloo, built by an enthusiast.

This is one of the best military museums I've visited globally! Absolutely amazing. I was lucky enough to meet the person responsible for creating the Waterloo battle landscape, a 27 year labour of love. Amazing.

This museum surprised me from the start when I was greeted by a French soldier in uniform explaining how to order tickets. He even saved me money because apparently you get a discount if you have visited the Musée des blindés on the same day. The museum was very well designed and maintained and the contents were very interesting. It... More

It was a rainy Sunday in Saumur so I looked for something to do, a little over Chateau, went to see if this museum of the French Cavalery was open. It turned out to be a very worthwhile and interesting experience and if you have the slightest interest in Military History you will enjoy your visit. The Museum covers the... More
