The setting on the river together with the town make it a necessary visit. A particular category of architecture.

After all these years I still pride myself for seeing this place and its town. At the time of my visit that took place many years ago long before the range off calendar dates... read more

We went to the chateau for the blessing of the grape and enjoyed the whole experience. We joined in the many events from the brass band, marching speeches and the pressing of the grapes where we sampled the grape juice. Entry on this day was free and ther was lots of food and wine to buy from the many stalls.... More

Great chateau- easily accessible by foot from the town centre (though can drive there we didn't) meander up through the old town to come out to amazing views along La Loire. Perfect size for a mornings viewing. Are some parts undergoing restoration but that didn't spoil the enjoyment. I would say a must see!

This is a lovely chateau set up on a hill overlooking the pretty town of Saumur. We visited in November and, unfortunately, the actual chateau was closed, However, it was free to wander the grounds and use the parking facilities. You enter by a lovely gate which is closed at sunset. There are a few nice places to sit and... More

Good market on Saturdays. Nice shops. Pleasant atmosphere. Walk through the streets and enjoy the feeling. The Loire I alongside the town.

While this is not the most famous of the chateaux along the Loire, it is closest to where we stayed and still very much worth a visit. Tours are offered in English and French, and the hosts are very proud of their chateau, which makes the experience even better. While there is less to see in this location than some... More

Great views looking out over the city. While I was there in Sept '16 the place was under major renovation. Not a lot to see inside it. Probably a lot of the rooms closed off due to the renovation. Would go back when all renovation is complete.

Not sure what people are talking about with a difficult climb up to this chateau. We parked immediately adjacent to the castle and were at the entrance in just minutes. No difficulties. There is no need to actually enter this chateau. Stop by for a brief visit to admire the views. Also make sure to take a fabulous photos of... More
