The Castle of the Dukes of Brittany houses the Nantes History Museum, displaying more than 850 historic objects with multimedia installations in a contemporary layout. The former ducal palace also holds temporary exhibitions and cultural events all year round. Besides, the rampart walk offers a number of viewpoints of the fortress. The night-time illuminations further reveal the architectural complexity of the site. A restaurant and a gift shop are as well at your service.

Unexpected experience

We visited it because we had purchased a Nantes pass. It was a brilliant experience and would recommend with the audio guide.

Great Chateau, still is totally encircled by a moat. This place really makes you think about days gone by.

This imposing building dominates the area in Nantes between Bouffay and Duchess Anne Chateau tram stations and whose entrance is directly opposite the Office de Tourisme. The castle grounds and ramparts have free access to the public, from which panoramic views of the city can be had. It is the Chateau museum that houses a wealth of history depicting the... More

Firstly, you can walk around the ramparts, and the courtyard on the Chateau completely free of charge! The museum thought is also well worth a visit. I tells of the History of Nantes from Roman times until the present day, with a very informative audio guide.

Beautiful castle in the middle of the city, very easy to get to, just follow the painted line on the ground.

This castle is one of the most impressive I have visited and the museum inside is wonderful and gives a very full history of Nantes from before the castle was built to present day and what has shaped the city very worth while if got the time.

As a lover of history I spent the day here and then I chose to sit in the grounds with my lunch. A wonderful experience.

I was for a business event, in the summer. The place is quite charming, and it provides awesome views of the city. It is certainly worth visiting for about 1.5 hours.
