Atmospheric medieval city

Wow! What an interesting place,.. Not commercial with real people still living there...and made more authentic by mist! One could almost hear carts in the cobbled streets!

As we had heard how beautiful the old town of Le Mans is, we detoured on our way back from holiday and stayed in a hotel around a 10 minute walk away. We were not disappointed. Old cobbled streets with many timbered houses. It offered great views too, sitting very high up from the new city. On Sunday morning there... More

Amazing place well worth a visit. The old town is quite simply magnificent and very interesting to see it sitting alongside the new city.

This was my second visit to the area but my first visit to the old town of Le Mans. We parked on the outskirts and took a tram into the city centre and then it was just a short walk to the old town. The medieval streets and old buildings are worth a visit. We had a lovely walk around.... More

We stopped at Le Mans to visit the racing circuit and found in the hotelroom information about the city center, which triggered our midday and evening visit.

I was so surprised! I just thought.....Le Mans.......Motor Racing! WRONG! The Old Town is utterly delightful - a feast for the eyes! The buildings are stunning! Nice little shops! Surprises round every corner!

We enjoyed the historic part of Le Mans, just walking around behind the old city wall and taking many pictures. Beautiful gothic Cathedral. Also the modern city centre was a pleasant experience. Worth a visit, do'nt know for sure if I would go a second time though. I prefer Rouen for that matter.

This is an easy location to access from virtually anywhere in Le Mans. The tram system will get you there and it is efficient and inexpensive. There are many shops and restaurants available and we enjoyed shopping in this location. Owners of local establishments were all exceptionally friendly. You can also partake in the weekly Marche' in the vicinity and... More

If you find yourself in Le Mans, do take the time to go to the Old Town and have a meander along its winding street and little squares and marvel at the astonishing old buildings, many of which date from mediaeval times. The views are also terrific from the battlements and from the walls atop the hill on which the... More

This is a real gem of a place to walk around and soak up the atmosphere and history. It's excellent during the illuminations nights during August / high season.
