Lovely town square with charming cafes and historic buildings

This part of Rouen is a lovely place to sit at an outdoor cafe and enjoy a drink and meal on a summer's day. The square is surrounded by beautiful historic buildings.

The centre of Rouen is actually quite a small area at the heart of which is a wonderful town square surrounded by buildings with great architectural interest. A real buzz around here with lots to see and do. Although an area of typical tourist trap restaurants, cafes and bars it has a certain charm that somehow compensates. Lots of interesting... More

There are many timbered houses and / or cantilever's , much of which is in fact made up of old facades and buildings. The setting is very impressive but the highlight has to be what is related to execution of Joan of Arc who was there burnt alive the 30 May 1431 . The place of public executions with the... More

Rue Eau de robec, Place du Vieux-Marche, Rue Saint-Romain, Place de l'Aitre de St. Maclou are all beautiful little streets in Rouen one should wander. There are ample places to sit and enjoy a meal, drink some cafe and enjoy a crepe.

In among Christmas activities you did see the ruins of the original church. The church is worth a visit. Surrounded by many restaurants and shops.

This place is among the oldest place in Europe. You can find the oldest hostel of France on this place which still have somehow the original design. You can still book a room in it, which offers amazing view on the place and the boat church. On this place, Jeanne d'Arc was burned, there is a huge cross on the... More

Visually and socially, Place du Vieux-Marche is a great urban space. It is strange there seems to be ruin outcroppings popping up out of the pavement that could cause a twisted ankle or worse. The space is, on one side, dominated by ultramodern shape of cold black slate roof and facade of Joan d.Arc church the side opposite is defined... More

Really enjoyed this bustling square, especially the excellent restaurants around it in the evenings. Very busy and very French atmosphere, particularly in the packed bars. Easy to take a stroll up to the cathedral and see it lit up at night to walk off the excesses!

This is what I consider the heart of the city, the architecture, the Church of St Joan of Arc, the market and the cafés. It's worth sitting there and see tourists and locals go by. There is a great place to eat sea food in the market, you should not miss it!

Just a great place to take in life in Rouen. Nice eateries, with reasonable prices. Near the Church of Joan of Arc. Good place to people watch. Loved this town...we will go back.

Thank Fred W
