This bridge has nothing quite particular or to visit.... But it is very useful for locals (or tourists) to get a stroll on the other bank which has just been renovated. When raising for the Armada season for example, it is truly a nice moment.

The bridge structure is interesting from an engineering point of view, and it does provide access over the Seine River. However, the mechanism is such that it lifts the whole middle section of the bridge if anything larger than a river boat needs to pass. It was originally built to allow large ocean-going ships to come up the river to... More

On Fete Nationale (July 14), we took a cruise to see the fireworks over the Seine. Our boat started not far from Pont Gustave Flaubert, and actually we went back and forth underneath the bridge before heading to the fireworks. Not sure how the towers works - would love to see them in action - but at night the whole... More

Not only is the bridge ugly but it is also a disaster waiting to happen. The system is so sophisticated and fragile that nobody knows how long it will last and how much it will cost to repair it.

Quite a good piece of engineering, from a distance it looked like cranes, then I realised that the towers were there to lift the centre section to allow ships to pass under. It must cut some distance off crossing the river at that point

Not sure why this is considered an attraction, especially in Rouen where there are plenty of sights to see. Perhaps if you are an engineer? but there seems a lot of other bridges that look unique and they are not listed. I wouldn't think anyone is going to Rouen to see this particular bridge.

Yes it is a bridge and one that does allow you to cross water without getting wet but the engineering associated with this construction it is worth a look and take a photo.

This was a bridge. It goes over water, and you can use it to get from one side to the other. I actually used this bridge for months without knowing its name.

With sleek lines of concrete and steel this unique but utilitarean Bridge has a functional but not asthetic presence in Rouen. It definitely does not meld with the skyline of the Cathederals of the city. But, it does allow a few floating vessels freedom to make it a few more kilometers . . . (My bride says it is one... An amazing engineering feat, but having got through the lifting bridge there is little further up the river that large ships etc can go. If you get this far, go to see the Martime Museum
