Come and visit La Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg, a family attraction all about man’s adventures under the sea, and a must when you are in Normandy. You can spend the whole day here and go round “Titanic, return to Cherbourg”, an exhibition which has its like nowhere else in France. It is on the theme of the celebrated liner, but also on emigration. You will also be able to listen to the Captain of Le Redoutable telling you about his life on board the largest submarine open to the public in the world. Then you will gaze in awe at our 17 aquariums, including the magical, 11-metre-deep, Abyssal Aquarium.

The Cite de la mar is a museum and aquarium which is housed in the old cruise terminal. This huge space is directly along side the Quai de la France, where cruise ships still dock. It is therefore super convenient for cruise passengers, in fact...More

La Cite de la Mer is basically three attractions: A Titanic Museum, An Oceanography Museum with Aquarium and a Nuclear Submarine. There are free shuttle buses here from the ferry terminal. A leaflet informed us that if you show your Brittany Ferries ticket you can...More

We were stopped here for a day on a cruise. The museum is right next door to the cruise terminal. The entrance fee is €18 but if you are from a cruise ship the fee is only €16.50. The museum is separated into 4 different...More

This is well worth a visit if you have any kind of interest in the sea or marine life.It is a bit pricey at 18euros each but you do learn a lot and the trip around the nuclear submarine is something else.

Great fun for all the family, could easily spend a full day here, visited with children aged 5 & 8 who really enjoyed it, but I think older kids would get more out of it.

Housed in the former Cruiseline terminal, we called here on a wet afternoon, having time to kill while waiting for the ferry back to UK. The cavernous hall is very impressive, containing a number of historic submarines. We did not transfer to the adjacent building,...More

Worth a visit. Make sure you get some flyers from Brittany Ferries which allow one child in with each paying adult otherwise it's expensive. The nuclear submarine is good as is the Titanic exhibition and aquarium. The submarine ride/simulation is very dated though!

We appreciated this museum. The submarine is just amazing. However you should go there early in the morning. We came at 12:00 and had to cue 30 minutes. Finally the video "walk under the sea" was already sold out. At least we got a small...More
