This is the site of William the Conqueror's castle. It's amazing in size and it is well preserved. I enjoy traversing the ramparts and viewing the city from them. On a clear day the views are amazing. It's also a great place for folks to hang out on the grass below the ramparts for a picnic, a glass of wine,... More

The castle is full of interesting ruins, stone walls and ramparts, a museum, gallery and restaurant, but the highlight of our quick visit was the castle donjon with its moat. Also great for scenic views over Caen and its beautiful buildings and churches.

As an American, I can't claim to have any other castles to compare it too, but this was terrific! Beautiful to see at night and peaceful to roam during the day. I'd love to bring my family here.

950th anniversary of Williams victory at Hastings. Was wonderful to see. Do not neglect the views of Caen from the fortification.

To be standing on the ground that once house William the Conquerer's castle was an experience. There is still a lot to see and it is a very popular location. We went twice in two days to ensure that we saw it all.

The Chateau is very imposing, sitting on a hilltop right in the middle of Caen. The entrance was build by the English man during the Hundred years' war. Walking along the ramparts provides lovely views towards the town with its many church steeples. There are also the ruins of William the Conqueror's original castle to be seen - it's one... More

Have on mind that on the site you will not find the castle, but only the castle ruins and the remains of the defensive wall. If you climb up the walls you will see one side of the city, but La Maison des Quatrans and Église Saint-Pierre the best. Of course you can visit Musée de Normandie and Musée des... More

The castle has been carefully restored and is great to wonder around. The views from the ramparts are spectacular.
