Ruins of the12th Century fortress built by Richard the Lionheart upon his return from the crusade. Construction amazingly took less than 2 years! The view over the Seine valley is breathtaking. Worth a detour, especially if you are into medieval history!

Great views over the river, the chalk cliffs and the town of Andelys. The ruins themselves are quite charming as well. Too bad the castle was closed for individual visitors when we arrived.

Imposing ruins of the 12th century castle are well worth the detour from the highway from Paris to Normandy. The views from the top of the limestone cliffs are impressive. While there is not much to see in the ruins, it is still worth the...More

The castle is restored perfectly by its new owners. The tour guide explained the history of the castle and the city since 14th century in an interesting way. We had a great time visiting the castle and the garden.

We were tired of going to "tourist" attractions and were looking for something a bit off the beaten path. Chateau Gaillard fit the bill perfectly. The small town of Les Andelys has a few really nice restaurants, lots of ancient buildings to gawk at, and...More

Visited here with my family as part of a riverboat cruise excursion. From the river it is impressive, but even more so as you get closer and finally arrive at the castle itself. Note: It definitely is a climb, so wear good walking shoes and...More
