Interesting and varied collections in a fabulous setting. I was particularly impressed with how the works were lighted so that they called to you. The temporary exhibition theme was courtyards. They provided a detailed handout in English of the temporary exhibit.

The Musee des Augustins is housed in a former Augustine monastery, a historical monument in itself of southern Gothic architecture. The monastery dates mainly from the 14th and 15 century. The museum has four exhibits halls: a Gothic Sculpture Gallery, works from 15th to the 17th century, a Romanesque sculpture Gallery, and a painting gallery with works from the 17th... More

Supposed that it will be just a visit to monastery and inner yard, but haven't expected such a rich collection of picture art (even Delacroix and Toulouse-Lautrec) and column caps from XII century churches, selection of bronze and marble statues. The most peculiar - collection of medieval gargoyles!! Seems that ticket were free of charge on first Sunday of month.... More

This medieval convent has been turned into a museum that houses a first rate medieval collection of sculpture from the surrounding churches. It also has a very interesting collection of paintings (mainly nineteenth and twentieth century) on the upper floor. The cloister offers a calm place to contemplate the garden and the collection of gargoyles. It's a must-see in Toulouse

Lovely and eclectic collections, from 13/14 century gargoyles and medieval wall paintings, to 15th-17th paintings in a chapel to the 17th-20th century painting galleries. English in most sections although full translations are missing.

Architecturally one of Toulouse's most attractive buildings The temporary exhibition (as of March 2017) on the subject of Courtyards in art, was a model of how to take a group of works only a few of which could be called masterpieces and make an interesting show of them: well-selected, well-researched, well-documented, well-displayed. Against that, the deliberately old-fashioned hanging of the... More

Visited this museum on a Monday as we had time to spare before heading for airport and nothing much open on a Monday. So glad we did visit as this was one of our highlights. Suggest you use the audio guide to make the most of it.

There's currently a wonderful exhibition of art through the ages with the courtyard as its theme, (it works, trust me) quite apart from the fantastic permanent galleries of vast French masterpieces upstairs, the cloisters, the modern display of salvaged columns, the statuary and the interior of the great monastery itself. well worth the entrance fee.
