Beautiful

Well worth a gentle stroll through these gardens. Close to centre and other sights.
A steep but pleasant climb to the Tour Magne.

Fantastic gardens
Aug 2020 • Couples
We walked through the gardens to get to the Tour Magne.

There is no set path to the top, about 5 different ways, all on an incline, but steps or slopes.

Definitely worth doing even in you don’t go up the tower.

Gardens are free to visit, only charge is the tower.

A pleasant oasis
Jul 2020
Beautifully laid-out gardens in classical style. The fountain was not flowing when I visited. I don’t know if this is usual or not. It would have looked magnificent if the water was moving. The canals leading to the garden are very pretty. I was impressed to see municipal workers cleaning them and making sure they were presentable for locals and visitors alike.
The Temple of Diane is within the gardens, as is the Roman Tower.
There were quite a lot of people visiting as soon as the gates opened – walking their dogs, exercising – obviously a well-loved oasis in the city.

Wonderful Gardens
Aug 2019
Jardins de la Fontaine are really beautiful gardens. There are many water features, ponds and canals, as well as some remains from the Roman times, and there is a huge area you can wander around and enjoy and just relax. The garden was constructed sometime in the 17th century.

The tiring walk to the top was well worth while
Feb 2020
The gardens are very attractive and sufficiently large that they don't seem crowded. We walked up to the tower at the top and then climbed the tower for some spectacular views. This was exhausting but very well worth doing

Amazing

The whole of this area is beautiful. And it extends outside the gardens on to the street with the water features.

Lovely day
Feb 2020
We discussed the French garden versus the English garden and we finally hit on the compromise word “park”. This did not shout garden at us! It’s a lovely formal space with a canal to the southand the fountain plus various ponds filled with a myriad of carp and other freshwater fish plus what appears to be a large number of very big goldfish! Lots of colours in the fish population and restful to watch them circling for food. We imagine a lot of people feed them.

Actual greenery is really limited to the tree area to the north of the Jardin, rather than planted areas. It very peaceful at this time of year.

Beautiful...Even on a Winter’s Day
Jan 2020 • Solo
After following the canal along Quai de la Fontaine, I ended up at the iron and gold gates to these gardens. I spent about a half-hour strolling amidst the pools and admiring the numerous sculptures (most of which were taken/purchased from an estate that was torn down in Montpellier). There were two beautiful white swans in one of the pools. A set of stairs leads up to Tour Magne. Although still beautiful in the middle of winter, I would imagine that in late Spring and Summer these gardens are exquisite.
