We spent the night in Carcassonne so visiting the castle during the day and taking pictures was beautiful but walking around the ruins after all the day trip people had left was awe inspiring. The lighting is lovely and the weather was perfect.

Wonderful ruins with a story to match. Kate Mosse renewed the phenomena... Some of the castles are extremely difficult to reach, but well worth the trek...bring good hiking shoes!

Walked up. Did not think too hard for healthy adult or school age child. Great views. Stayed in Cucugnan close by

I took my own car on the Ferry from Dover-Calais and drove down. Assume you're flying in from USA so presumably into Paris CDG. I'd consider taking the TGV train to maybe Avignon, hire a car there and drive down past... More
