Neighbourhood: Montparnasse
The namesake tower of Montparnasse dominates over the landscape but the fun part is the throbbing life that goes on below it. Bright lights, busy cinemas, brasseries and diners encompass hidden museums and parks to entertain the masses. Long avenues lead away from the tower to take you to unsuspecting places and historical monuments and treasures. In between lie adorable ivy-covered houses with beams and small gardens to match. Just a short metro ride away from the centre of Paris this neighbourhood has something for every hour of the day.

Busy But It Works
Jul 2021
We were headed to Tours so this was the place to go to pick up the TGV. Hectic and busy, plan some extra minutes to navigate the crowds and figure out where to go. Your ticket will be on your phone and you will scan the code to open the gate to get to your train. Don't expect any places to sit and wait, but there are a lot of cafes on the streets outside.

Total disorganisation!! Chaos !! Big mess
Jun 2021 • Family
It was a mess ! Displaying platform on the last minute is not the most clever way to avoid mass mouvement !! Also we found out our train was hall 2
Getting there no lift !! And we were told a lift was end of platform 18 meaning we had to go back and have a long walk, poor indication
Then in hall 2 , before boarding for our train to Toulouse, they kick every body from rest zone to put barrier and people were all pack (forget social distancing)
Then I pass on the boarding as it was a total mess despite these barrier
Shocking !!£

confusing and crowded
Jul 2021
They display the platform number right before the departure of the trains. A huge group of people was waiting in front of the display for their platfrom to be announced. Once it happend, a huge group of people was getting of the trains that had just arrived and at the same time people heading for their trains were going the opposite direction. Chaos and rush.

Avoid if possible
Jun 2021 • Solo
Train staff extremely unhelpful, losing their temper with me when their tickets dont work. No assistance or guidance on how to deal with issues other than reassurance that there wouldn't be an issue (I think to get rid of me). People at barriers for SNCF downright rude (ticket didn't work so woman Manning first class barrier told me to go away). My ticket was booked but it meant the train manager had to search for it by my name before they could confirm (their response after queuing up for fifty minutes for ticket office was to try to send me back there).

Travel Hub
Sep 2019
The Gare Montparnasse is one of the 6 travelling hubs in the city of Paris. If you are going to Versailles during the day, this is probably the local where you will embark. It takes around 30 minutes or more to Versailles. Make sure you go to the bathroom first, as we didn't find one inside the train. Also, ticket will cost around

This is a place with restaurants and several platforms, so you need to be careful to where you are going and if you are taking the right train. Bathrooms are paid.

Multi level transportation hub
Dec 2019
The Montparnasse station is one of the main transportation intersections and hubs in Paris. It spreads on several levels offering metro, train and bus services. The signage is good but due to huge crowds some of them can be overlooked. Despite the above, I find it easier to use and better than the Gare du Nord. However, you can always ask the staff for directions if knowing a little bit French.
As in many other stations in the French capital my main objective it's pretty dirty.

Huge and modern train station with nice connection to city's public transport. Adjacent to the famous tower with the same name.

Huge station, needs security
Sep 2019 • Family
This is a huge train station divided in 3areas so people literally run from one to another and trains leave on time.

2guys offered to assist and my mom found one guys hand in her bag, he didn't get any but it was shocking. Be aware!

Get yourself acquainted on the area where your train will depart and give yourself enough time to walk.

Best to buy ticket online and ticketing can help you print as long as it's within their operating hours. The ticket prices are more expensive when you compare online.

Lots of facilities
Sep 2019
A very busy station, with access to a few different Metro lines on the lowest level. The main floor has the "N" train that goes to Chateau Versailles. Two floors above that are the Grandes Lignes trains. And it is on that level, Level 2, where you will find most of the food options (primarily sandwiches, desserts, beverages, salads).
The station also has a foreign exchange counter, a left-luggage service, a manned lost and found, and a variety of shops.
If you need info from a real live person, in regards to a Grandes Lignes train, or have an issue in regards to them, go to Hall 1, at the far end of the floor, where you will find a "customer service".
I was under the impression that there was free wifi, but to be honest, I wasn't able to connect to it without a password.
There are a few maps online of Gare Montparnasse, which you may find helpful to reference in advance, because this is a very busy and fast moving station, compared to some of the others.

Great Station
Aug 2019 • Couples
I read so many negative reviews on Gare Montparnasse, I was afraid to use the Metro. Yes, it's a huge station and a bit chaotic but like all int'l train stations, there are lots of people and most know where they are going and many are running there! But they absolutely announce in English and signage is very clear! We took subway to Gare de L'est then TGV to Reims and returned with no problem at all!
