First ignore the Googlemap pointer on the Trip Advisor page, as it's wrong! This is a narrow triangular little park at the Ile de la Citie's western tip reached by a couple of steep stairways down from the ancient Pont Neuf. A plaque explains that these gardens were a gift of Montreal in 1967. On the north flank is the... More

Jst a few steps down from the Pont Neuf (17th century"New Bridge", now Paris' oldest, of course!) the little-frequented riverside Square du Vert Galant public garden awaits you for a unique touch of the French capital. "Galant Green" actually refers to the sexual activity of even ageing King Henri IV, whose statue graces the New Bridge above. But here, all... More

If you have just walked yourself to exhaustion, or if you have just landed and are jet lagged but don't want to go to bed, grab a picnic lunch and head to the Vert-Galant. This very, very small park is the perfect place to just sit and relax and watch the world go by. If you bring a bottle of... More

The square du Vert-Galant is located at the West tip of the île de la Cité. It is 7 m below the level of the roads and buildings floor in the rest of the island; it can be flooded during the river Seine highest tides. It is a very nice place to watch the sunset or ta take a picnic... More

We only had 2 and a half days in Paris and it was raining as we walked along the Seine. One of our planned outings was to be a boat ride along the Seine and we came upon one leaving at noon. While it was over cast and rainy, we were able to see many of the important sites of... More

On this spot on March 11 1314, Jacques de Molay, Grand Master of the Order of the Knights Templar, was burned alive. As a result, the Vatican forced the Priory of Sion underground and (almost) exterminated the secret Bloodline of Mary Magdalene and Jesus Christ. There is a small plaque to commemorate this atrocity (see photo). The plaque is easy... More

This is the place to watch a Paris Sunset. Sit yourself down on the edge of the water and watch the sun set over the Seine river. Don't forget to wave at the dinner cruises that go by!

This park is quite hidden and as a result is less busy than many others. It sits at the western tip of the Ile de la Cite and is accessed via steps down from the Pont Neuf. It is named after Henry IV who was nicknamed the Green Gallant. There is a statue of him on his horse at street... More

The Square du Vert-Galant is a small green space on the Ile de la Cite which is accessed via Pont Neuf. A peaceful little park, it has an equestrian statue of Henry IV in it.

Got engaged under the willow tree on our first night here. The light rain gave us the park to ourselves. The rest of the week it was teaming with people relaxing in the sun by the riverside.

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
